Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

I worked a whole year in the NC mountains and the FL Everglades as an outdoor instructor, and these pants were one piece of gear I never considered leaving behind. They withstood several hundred pitches of climbing and many many miles of backpacking off and on trail without any damage. They are super comfortable, with some stretchy material just where you want it in the inseam and rear, as well as vents behind the knee. Not commonly mentioned, but these are bug PROOF! I have watched mosquitoes try to penetrate these for several minutes, where they would have just bitten through other pants I've owned. These have been my favorite pants ever.

Look terrible after washing

These pants are great in their fit, feel and function. The thread seems to shrink a lot more than the material so the pant legs get all puckered along the seams on the legs. Not a problem with the quality, but they do not look good after being washed. The older pants they replaced were great pants.

Nice material, great look

Great pants, have gotten a variety of complements on them so now i like them even more than when I bought them. They are very cozy, stretch with movement and last for several days without looking tired and dirty for those of us who are CA drought minded it's great. Would have given 5 stars but the belt is a joke, not fixed in the belt sleeve and it's thin nylon and twists so it's a cheap afterthought belt. I yanked it out and put it through the belt hoops, that way it won't drive me crazy twisting and turning. they should have sewn it in to keep it flat and facing the right direction every time. Not a deal breaker though, will buy another pair down the road.

Good pants for all around pants.

Bought these a few weeks ago to be used primarily as rock climbing pants. My other choice were the Prana Zion pants. But I found these on the clearance rack, tried them on, bought them then headed to the gym to put them to the test. They passed with flying colors. The stretch is perfect and the knees have reinforced panels which held up with no apparent wear after a 3 day trip to Mazama for some outdoor abuse. My only gripe is the belt that it comes with can be a bit uncomfortable in a harness. But that's easily remedied by just taking it out. Overall definitely a good pair of pants for your outdoor activities.

Fantastic climbing pants

They're the only climbing pants I've used ever since I bought them. Taken them outside about four times to Big Bear mostly. Makes the the approach hike great and they are quick drying for hot days. Great ventilation and very flexible for those athletic climbing moves. The material has got good abrasion resistance so far against the granite I've been on. Don't see any durability issues anytime soon. Cons: makes the swish swish sound a little bit when you walk. And the included internal belt doesn't stay tight, but it's not really a problem because the waist is somewhat stretchy and fits well regardless. Overall: totally worth it, and will probably get another pair in khaki. Love this item.

More... must. have. more.

After three continents and dozens of adventures I am only more enamored with these pants. The fit is phenomenally comfortable for days on end, but they never look baggy or dishevelled. They're durable too; surviving a motorcycle accident in Taiwan without a scuff. I ended up buying two more pairs and putting my other "adventure" pants in the attic. Pros: + Extra durable nylon in critical wear areas + Stretchy fabric in the "business" regions + No excessive pocketry + Fit is the perfect mix of relaxed and business casual Cons: + No left back pocket (as a leftie, this drives me MAD) + Can't stop your hippie friends from stinking up the bus.

Seven years of frequent use - still going strong

Dear REI: PLEASE bring these back. These are the most durable, comfortable, breathable outdoor pants I've ever come across. They're flexible enough to do yoga or climb in, roomy (which I like for active use), and simply take no damage. Seven years in, I cannot find a single abrasion, and I have put these through the wringer. These are the kinds of pants you can sit on abrasive surfaces without thinking twice. The water-resistance has worn down a bit, but they can still block some rain, and they dry fairly quickly. The khakis are pretty easy to dress up, too. You won't get a second glance wearing these out to eat. They're just all-around excellent pants.

Great Pants!

I was looking for a good quality pant with a small amount of stretch for horseback riding and ATV riding in Montana. I wanted something that was easy to pack but was resilient and protected me from the elements. I tried on several brands including Prana, Kuhl and REI. Of all the pants, these fit me the best and were true to size. They include a nice integrated belt which allows you to wear these without using a real actual belt. I went with the tan and like them so much, I plan on getting the green version. Overall just a great pant to wear casually around the house or on your outdoor adventures.

Great pants but......

These by far the most comfortable pants I own in fact I have two pair and wear them almost daily. They have worn well and tolerate all of my yard work, hiking, camping and have not worn thin or snagged anywhere truly a great pair of pant. They are flexible, durable and dry quick. However I have had to replace the button on both pair as the original is plastic and in my opinion a poor choice for such a study pant. Now I have replaced the belt on one pair as well, again because the buckle was thin plastic that failed within two months. Rather than pay the 25$ restocking fee I have the tools and skill set to replace these items but I think for a 75$ pair of pants the attention to these two small items is worth a look at.

Great Overall but has small design flaw

I've loved wearing these pants for leisure hiking and working in the outdoors industry. They're quick drying and light, and I like the included waist belt and ventilation sewn in behind the knees. I bought two pairs of these one for work and one leisure after owning one pair for a while and wearing them on a regular basis. I do have one serious qualm with them however and that is the snap button design on the waist. I've worn both pair for over a hundred or so days each and overtime with the continual snapping of the buttons they both broke off. If only the buttons were a classic flat button through slit, I'd give these pants 5 stars.
