REI Co-op  Stretch Trail Pants - Men's

I got these REI hiking pants for my husband in a 32 x 32. He really likes the material, the stretch and the breathability. He has worn them hiking and biking, and they’ve been very functional. However, the problem is the fit. They are unusually tight through the hips, crotch, and butt, while the legs fit great. My husband doesn’t have a particularly large butt, so I think they’d be an awkward fit for most men. If the upper part was just a little looser, these would be fantastic pants. Great fabric and performance, but unfortunately, the fit is a bit off. 

In terms of weight and next-to-skin feel, these are almost identical to premium models from other outdoor brands. Thin enough to avoid being sweltering but not sheer or fragile. Wonderfully breathable and comfy. The zippered leg pocket and sunglasses loop are useful touches without making them look too technical. I wouldn't feel underdressed or overpreppared wearing them to the grocery store or the office on Fridays. I was set to wear them all day in Yosemite National Park for a proper shakedown but unfortunately they are uncomfortably tight across the waist and hips. Which is a shame because from the thighs down they fit perfectly. Even on flat pavement the stitching around the knees makes a noticeably comfortable difference. For reference I am 5'9", ~190 pounds, and a 36in waist in most slacks and denim, which is the size I requested. Overall, these could be a comparable and affordable option to the same class of pants from any other big name brand. I just should have sized up.

Comfy pants that are slightly fitted but stretch with movement. The stretch allows for easy moving when hiking. It has a nice casual look that can double as a casual office outfit. It feels lightweight and has nice deep pockets. There is also a zippered pocket on the side to secure something like keys when hiking.

Comfortable fitting pants. The stretch is slight, which I find comfortable for moving in all directions, but not too stretchy. The fit is not quite slim fit. Just big enough with the stretch that they are comfortable without looking bulky. The front pockets are deep. Sizing is accurate.

Pants are very lightweight and comfortable. Movement in them is great as the material has stretch to it (as the name implies). Moving around fallen trees or over a rock is easy. The fit of the pant is very flattering - got compliments on them from hiking buddies and my wife. Water/liquid beads on them without immediately soaking in - was able to brush off raindrops or splashed water easily before it saturated anything. Durability doesn’t seem to be an issue either. After multiple hikes, they still look brand new. The only slight drawback is that the breathability seems a little lacking when the temp/humidity rise. For the most part, they were fine but on a couple of hikes with a lot of sunshine and humidity, a bit of a clammy feeling by the end. To be fair, I feel like it was more a result of the ambient air than anything with the pant so didn’t want to dock any stars.
