Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved my bacon! I purchased this jacket just 2 weeks prior to my trip to Colorado. Almost every afternoon at over 10,000 feet a rain storm would abruptly hit. One afternoon especially when I was at the end of the lake in a small boat. This jacket stopped the wind and rain and in no time was dry. It really saved my bacon, Thank you so much REI. The longer sleeves and tall collar with attached hood is just perfect! The soft internal collar added a little warmth and a lot of comfort. Guess what my family is getting for Christmas this year? This jacket

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I used to love it... I just noticed that the right shoulder is nearly worn through to the inner layer because of he velcro closure for the top of the zipper/jacket. In the process of putting the coat on and zipping it, the Velcro rubs on the shoulder and has totally frayed the material. This is also an issue if you don't wear it zippered all the way every time you wear it. I plan on exchanging it and switching the side of the velcro on the top so that the loops are on the right side to prevent wear. I loved the jacket so much I bought the insulated version of it and love that as well, and must say that the cuff closures are MUCH better on the insulated version. The rain jacket version is way too stiff. They catch on everything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great raincoat for a great price Bought this raincoat when my north face raincoat walked off. I had a few specifications that I really wanted: pit zips, hood with a bill, and a longer torso. This jacket has gone above and beyond my expectations. I love the higher-set pockets (I've used them with a pack and a climbing harness), the internal collar, and overall fit. Definitely buying this raincoat again--if I ever have to! It does run big: if you are a small, then a small size in this raincoat will have plenty of room for layer underneath!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in the rain! I bought this as a rain layer for travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil and Machu Picchu. I looked at another brand and really liked the texture on this jacket and the longer pit zips. This jacket kept me dry in the many downpours in Sao Paulo, yet warm in the morning at Machu Picchu. It's a very versatile jacket and rolls up well when not in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE This Jacket! I've been looking for a lightweight waterproof jacket for daily wear. I ordered an Adidas Outdoor Wandertag Jacket from another company. I liked the fit of that jacket except when I put the hood up it came down over my eyes; no adjustment corrected that problem; I sent it back. I was thinking about getting a North Face Resolve jacket (my daughter loves hers), or Venture jacket (couldn't decide). I finally went to REI to try on waterproof shells for fit. A lovely REI Helper showed me this jacket and told me about it. It ended up between this one and a Columbia shell. Even though this one was $50 more than I wanted to spend, I chose it because of the fit and comfort. I absolutely LOVE the fit! The hood is perfect with cord locks built right into it. The sleeves are long enough to go past my wrists (I am 5' 7" but have broad shoulders so many jacket sleeves can hit me above my wrist bones). Because the outside layer is stretch polyester it's not as noisy as other rain shells, and feels much nicer too. The inside lining is also comfortable, and looks nicer than some of the other jackets with a mesh lining and pockets. I would buy this jacket again in a heartbeat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome, Practical Hiking Jacket I love this jacket! It has the best hood + collar I have ever had on a water repellant/water proof jacket. The hood cinches perfectly for windy days and the collar doesn't rub against my chin. I love the underarm venting. It isn't particularly flattering to the figure (it's a bit box shaped) but it is so comfortable! I found the sizing to be accurate with a little extra room below the bust, especially when the vents are unzipped. Perfect sizing for layering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Talusphere rain jacket This jacket really helps keep the rain out. With my other rain coats it soaks it very quickly. However this coat keeps me dry even it heavy rain.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from great fit but not waterproof or water repellant Purchased this jacket in the spring and love the fit! But, the first rainfall, the layers under it got wet. I love this jacket and its perfect for a sunny or overcast day, but not in any rain. The fabric absorbed rain and made clothing underneath wet quickly. Not water resistant at all.

Is this a tight or roomy fit?  Should I go for bigger size to allow for fleece/jacket underneath or do I assume this is already taken into account in the sizing?

Asked by: Patagonia traveler
I would size up, it is slim fitting, but not tight, so I guess it depends on how you like your jacket to fit.  I can wear a light fleece or sweatshirt under mine and I sized up.

It looks short, just reaching top of hips. I'm long waisted, guessing it's not a good item for me. What is the measurement pit to hem?

Asked by: wever
The back length of this jacket is 26.5 inches. The measurement from pit to hem is 19 inches.

So some people have said this jacket it amazing, keeps them dry in the worst rain conditions, other claim their sleeves get wet underneath, i had the wet sleeve experience. is it a bad batch, or just the way i wear the jacket?

Asked by: heatherb
We have not heard overwhelming feedback about this jacket not being waterproof. The jacket should be entirely waterproof, including the sleeves. If you are having issues with the waterproofing on your jacket, you are welcome to return or exchange it. Our full return policy can be found online here:

The tag says that the hood works three ways but no instructions. What 3 ways?

Asked by: Wolfewolfe6
On the back of the hood is the volume control. Squeeze the toggle to tighten or loosen the hood to fit with or without a helmet. The other two adjustments are at either side of the neck. Pull the bungee cords to pull the hood around your face. When you get the adjustment you want, pull the bungee down in the slot to lock it in.

I'm deciding between the Talusphere and Motility jackets.  Besides the price, what are the differences between these 2 jackets regarding performance and fit? The "Compare" feature on REI's website didn't show much difference.

Asked by: Ja9Lee
The Motility jacket is heavier than the Talushere. The Motility has 4-way stretch which gives you more range of motion.

Tiring to decide between the Talusphere jacket and the Marmot Minimalist jacket. Suggestions?

Asked by: Chizler
The Talusphere and Minimalist jackets are both constructed with 2.5 layer waterproof membranes. Also, both use pit zips for increased ventilation and adjustable hoods, cuffs and hem drawcords. These jackets are very similar as the matching features suggest and will offer very similar performance.

Is it fitted or can I wear a fleece underneath? Also what is the difference in arm length between the small & medium?

Asked by: Jennvan
The women's Talusphere Rain Jacket is roomy enough to fit a fleece mid layer underneath. There is approximately 1/2 inch difference in sleeve length between sizes.
