Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite of mine and love the easy pouring spout I bought their larger pot and couldn't wait to get the kettle. use this all the time even when in the RV and not camping. It's light and so compact. I think it will last a very long time too. I really like the way the spout pours well without dripping when I pour it over my coffee grounds. highly recommend this product

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile - possible downside I used the kettle often for camping and never had a problem, perhaps because I would use up all the water. However, recently (11months after the purchase) I used the kettle at home and after turning down the flame, the plastic top warped due to the steam's heat. I'd never had this happen until then. I got a replacement and have not experienced the same issue since. I would like to think this defect was due to that one product and hope it isn't just normal wear.... I really like these products. Very compact, easy to use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from X-Pot Kettle, 1.3 liter This packs small and relatively light. It heats quickly. However, it is only about 750 mL usable volume if you fill to the recommended fill line. Second, the lid does warp. Once it gets to boiling you need to flame off if you want to preserve the lid. If you accept the above limitations, it is a useful product. I intend to keep using it with my new lid.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lid Needs Redesigned, Otherwise Fab! I had this for two weeks and the lid warped despite attentive thoughtful use, following the usage guidelines, typical behavior of a Virgo. Note that I also own the small X-Pot and that lid also warped. However, in that case I had misused it, because I had the fold-over handles attached to the lid while boiling water and apparently that is a no no. Since then, the replacement lid they sent me remains in good shape. Having that experience, I took care to follow their guidelines when I picked up the X-Kettle, but still ended up w a warped lid. Customer service is responsive and will replace your lid. Make sure to let them know if you have a problem because they don't appear to consider their lid to be a problem, saying that "We see under 1% of our X-Series experience any sort of issue and even less that end up with a broken lid from manufacturing defects." How could I be so unlucky as to strike out twice in a row? If you read other reviews of the X-Pots or Kettle on this site or others, you'll see complaints about the lid cracking or warping; I'm not alone. Other than the lid, I love this product. It pours very well ( little water cohesion with the spout ). In addition to heating water and soup, I find it great for hard boiling eggs. I find the Kettle more useful than the small X-Pot because of the handles and the pour spout. It is currently on the path of making my small X-Pot obsolete.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good idea horrible quality I bought this items 2 month agou . The first time works very good to make a tea. The next time I used the lid it began to melt in the middle. I always considered using it without much patency of gas. The next 3 times I used it again continued to melt and without boiling the water. Truly the cap very poor quality. And the product can not be used without the cap due to water vapor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One-pot cooking The Sea to Summit X-pot kettle is a great little 'traditional' shaped kettle with their fold-flat silicone design. The integral heat-proof base works well on most small-flame gas burners (eg I use Jetboil) and I've swapped this light-weight kettle/billy for the heavier titanium Jetboil pot when I am on short 1- 2-day hikes. It's sturdy and works well; I use it as a pot and a kettle and a large cup - so reduce carrying anything else when ultra light-weight camping. Great for 1-pot cooking. Good product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clever design and outstanding performance I purchased this kettle to replace a similar capacity hard sided kettle. Although it takes a short while longer to heat water for freeze dried foods, it takes up so much less room in my pack. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase.

Are you able to place this kettle on a camp stove and boil water in it? Or can the bottom of the piece withstand direct contact with a flame?

Asked by: ascott23
The X-Pot Kettle is designed to be used on backpacking stoves or camping stoves. The key point is that the silicone rubber is not exposed to direct flame – if you have a burner that has a flame pattern wider than the base of the X-Pot, the burner and X-Pot are not suitable for use together.

Has anyone tried using this with an MSR Whisperlite stove? Is the base wide enough to prevent flames from coming up around the edges?

Asked by: JohnW
This kettle is large enough to fit over the MSR Whisperlite stove.
