Well designed comfortable 24L commuter

I recently bought my first road bike and started commuting to work (16 miles each way) twice a week. I needed something right sized for a change of clothes and my computer that could also resist pacific northwest rain. So far this has exceeded expectations. The design is neat and clean with a cool roll-down top, treated fabric exterior, and a built-in rain cover which together keep the main compartment dry. I like that it doesn't have a lot of straps flapping all over the place. I like the understated color/style and hang a red LED flasher on the back for extra visibility. There's a crush proof compartment which fits glasses or a cell phone. The padded insert for a computer+tablet is removable which lets me wrap my Surface Pro 3 in clothes for cushioning to save some weight (2.6 lbs before removing the insert).

Solid, but...

I've been using this pack for a 3x/week 15-mile bike commute for about five or six months now. The pack definitely performs as advertised, the outer material is solid, but not the reflective tape, which seems to peel away more and more with each ride. Wish it were just a little larger. 24L gets filled up pretty quickly with clothes and lunches, not to mention a laptop.

Heavy bike bag

This is a sturdy bag, and seriously engineered like all Thule gear. However. Do NOT discount its weight. After 5 days, my back began to seize, and I ended up returning the pack. Also, it starts out VERY stiff; I didn't keep it long enough for it to mellow, so can't say whether it will eventually mold to your back. But all the hardware and folding, it was a little clunky to deal with because the material is so very stiff.

Great features... lacking quality

I've used this pack for about three years of city bike and walk commuting. Similar to another reviewer, it is falling apart in many places: the water bottle pocket is worthless (small rips within 6 months; entirely ripped to the point I cut it off by year 2) and half of the reflective detailing has peeled off. I will say the main function of the bag (waterproof, comfortable bike bag) has held up and I haven't found a bag I like better feature-wise. I would still recommend this bag, but only at a lower price and I am pretty disappointed with Thule on this one.

Hi Steve, I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your Thule Pack n Pedal commuter backpack. Thank you for reaching out to let us know about the problem. The damage you described sounds like something that would be covered under Thule's limited lifetime warranty. I reached out via email for more information to get that process started!

Not really for commuting

I really liked the backpack, however, it definitely did not hold everything I needed to commute to school and around town. After my laptop, it felt pretty full and I was barely able to put my binder inside. If they made this a 36 or 40L with a decent suspension I'd grab one, but until then I had to return this.

Great design, lacking in quality.

I've had this bag for three years and it is basically falling apart. The water bottle pouch has been torn since year one, the reflective parts have fallen off, now the inner lining is splitting. This bag has everything I want design-wise, but I cannot recommend this bag for long-term, daily use.
