This hoodie works great. I hiked a Colorado 14er in late Sept. I am a bigger guy who easily gets hot & sweaty but this hoodie kept my body temp just right. It was getting near sunset and the temperature was dropping rapidly as I was desending the mountain. I was still pretty warm but because of sweat evaporation I was becoming cold. I put this on with a nylon poly sleeveless shirt underneath it and it regulated my sweat and my body temperature perfectly. I was no longer cold but I did not sweat or become overheated. I am really impressed with the quality and performance of this product. If you are a bigger guy who has the problem of overheating this is a perfect hoodie for you.
The design of the lining in this shirt is incredible. Thin lines of fleece are barely separated by the outer thin membrane, creating incredible air flow in the "cracks" while still retaining inner warmth. I used it as a standalone with shorts on a 4 mile run in 40 degrees (F) and it was truly incredible. Felt cool as the wind whipped heat away from me instantly but I never got cold. At the end of the run I took it off and smelled it...no odor whatsoever. And I'm a sweaty guy after a run. One big thing to note is that this is purely a performance shirt...It looks downright weird. I was hoping I could use this in urban environments as well, like underneath a t-shirt, but the neck/hood zips all the way up to my mouth, pretty much on top of it. So the hood and resulting huge collar lay really weird when the hood isn't being used. And if you throw the hood on but want to leave the neck unzipped, the excess fabric flaps all over the side of your face. Basically this is a peak performance product...the research that went into the design is awesome. But I really don't feel like it needed to zip all the way to my mouth. If they cut that fabric out and just left it as a normal collar that cuts off at the neck, this could cross over to urban life. But as it is, I'd only wear this when running/rock climbing, and that limited use makes it a little harder to fork over $120.
I love these hoodies but have to buy them elsewhere since REI doesn’t carry Patagonia Men’s XS sizes. I’m a woman but the men’s XS fits me better than the women’s sizes. Come on REI!
This is a nice and thin base layer. I sized up to a large (I have a 40" chest, 6' and 170 lbs) and it fits perfectly. I can layer it over a t-shirt and I don't look like a ninja. It is surprisingly warm for its thinness and warm when worn under a wind/rain/shell but it does not stop any wind. The thermal weight is the best version to get since the mid-weight is actually heavier and not as warm. I take this backpacking to use while sleeping or when I'm on the move on chilly mornings.
This model replaces the Capilene 4 Hoodie but it lost the vertical zip chest pocket. I have no idea why. 5 stars with the chest pocket.
Comfortable, looks good.Hood up neck zipped up for cold start up,hood zip down when hit that first hill.
Great for running, riding, skiing and climbing and layering. Hood makes all the difference.
