Doesn't fit all gas canisters
I just received it in the mail. It is lightweight and seems sturdy enough (assuming you don't treat it too roughly, as would be the case for any lightweight gear). But it does not fit the gas canister I currently have, Primus Power Gas 450 grams (large size). I'm hoping it will fit with one of those tiny canisters; haven't gotten one yet. If not, it does at least fit if you don't mind that it sits in the notches in only two out of the three legs. So it would be level and stable if you prop up one or two legs by a quarter inch or so. I can deal with that, since it's a good product otherwise. I get that it's made to fit Jetboil canisters, so I can't complain too much.
Broke on first use
Product served well when it came to attaching to the canister and providing stability. When it came time to remove it for the first time, it would not release. Rotating the canister in the groove did not help. As reported by others, the plastic is rigid / brittle as compared with pliable. Applying more pressure to pull the canister out resulted in breaking one of the attachment points.
Fits with 100g canister when folded
I have the Jetboil & MSR stands. Both work well. The MSR is a little easier to attach since it has a spring-loaded latch on one leg. But with smaller pots the Jetboil stand makes for a more compact setup. When folded it is just slightly larger in diameter that a standard 100g gas canister. That means it can fit into any pot along with the canister. And the ring around the canister's threaded neck nests inside the inner triangular opening on the stand (better with the protective cap removed). The MSR stand folds into a long, skinny form that doesn't fit into my smaller pots.
Not universal fit
This is a fine little compact stand if you know exactly what fuel you will be using for your entire trip, and you can verify ahead of time that it will fit. However if you might need to resupply your fuel along the way, this might not work with every brand. It does not fit any of my Coleman brand fuel canisters for example, which are commonly available at walmarts; they are slightly too wide. It does fit fine with my Jetboil canisters; on these it clips in securely and offers much better stability. I can't really blame Jetboil for Coleman not matching the standard canister size, but this product could be much better if one leg had a spring or something like the MSR stabilizer, so it would fit every type of can.
Breaks easily, buy the steel version
As others have said, it’s great until it breaks which is inevitable. Mine snapped in 50° weather, and then snapped again in a different place the following day. Sacrifice an extra ounce or two and carry the steel version by MSR. I was careful with it after reading reviews and it still broke on my 3rd trip.
Worth 6 stars . . . it's that good.
This is one of the most sensible, useful, and perfect products I've ever purchased. I just bought and used my first "new" stove last month . . . my older one being an MSR Whisperlight liquid-fuel stove. Just looking at all the new stoves . . . well . . . they all look like a tip-over waiting to happen. This product makes all the difference in the world. I used the new stove in the backcountry this week, and with these "feet," my stove was 100% stable. I want to buy one of these for all my friends and family who go camping.
Hard to attach and broke when I removed it
I suspect most of the time, these feet work great. But I think mine came from a batch where the tolerances were too far off. It was difficult getting the feet onto the fuel canister. I was worried I was doing something wrong and checked and rechecked, read the directions, went online to watch a video, etc. Eventually I just decided to go for it and, with some muscle, snapped it on. Getting it off was another story. Tried, retried, watched a video, etc. Eventually, there was nothing more to try than just brute force. And the feet, of course, broke. This was with a Jetboil canister too. So either the feet were off-the-mark or the canister was. Glad I tried this at home for the first time and not out in the field. Time to go to REI for another set of feet.
Broke with first use
When we tried to remove the canister from this stabilizer, one of the “arms” that holds it in securely -broke off, just like that. When we went back to the store we were informed that we could not get a replacement or refund because it was “usable” and the employee heavily implied user error. Using a jet boil that, now, slides around in the stabilizer may be technically usable, but in no way safe. I don’t recommend this product simply for the fact that if it has an issue, you may not get any help from REI.
Must have item
Must have for camp cooking. Used with my Snow Peak litemax stove this helps stabilize on uneven surfaces. Fits perfectly inside my Toaks 750ml titanium camp cup. Also nest nicely inside the curve under the gas canister as well saving a bit of space
I really wanted this thing!
I seriously wanted this thing because I knew it’d be great for stabilizing my stove. The reason I’m going 2/5 is based off my experience and possibly lack of knowledge? I bought this, received it, test fitted it on a Coleman Isopro can(DONT DO THIS) fought to get it on, then when I was taking it off…..one of the arms snapped. Maybe it fits the MSR or jetboil cans and not the Coleman cans? For $6-$7, I’ll be getting another one to try with their fuel cans. Will update in the future.
