I went to Iceland back in August (2016) with my boyfriend. We each picked out a rain jacket when they had a big clearance sale for rain gear. It fits perfect and helps cut the wind but within minutes of light rain there was moisture seeping through the seams all over the jacket. I bought the jacket solely as a rain jacket shell. I am very disappointed. But I am 5' 5" about 138lbs with 32DDD and I fit into their XS size. Even had room for a heavy hoodie under it. I was quiet surprised that 1) I fit in an a XS and 2) That a thick hoodie fit without having made me feel squeezed in. Overall its a very flattering fit but an awful rain jacket.
Great choice for a lightweight jacket! The gortex paclite material is awesome. It is definitely waterproof and comfortable to wear. The only negative comment I have it that it is a little too big. I got an XL. I am 5' 2" 170 lbs. My measurements are bust: 44, waist: 36, hip: 45. The sizing chart says that an XL is 42/34/44. So I was assuming this jacket would actually be too small. But I honestly could have gone with a large because the XL is a little too big. I have decided to keep this size because it will be nice to wear it with layers in colder weather.
Well made is an understatement here. This jacket has both strength and beauty...form and function. Not had it out in the bush so far but I believe it would handle any trail...any weather. The full length side zippers give ventilation a whole new meaning... great for layering or cooling off. The cornflower blue is awesome. More room in the shoulders...less in the hips...Very cool.
I really liked the material and quality of this jacket, and I wanted to make it work, but ultimately there was just too much fabric and the fit was all off. I would have kept the jacket had I needed an outer layer for winter conditions, as there was plenty of room in a Medium for layering underneath (I'm 5'6", 130 lbs), but it didn't do well for a summer rain jacket so I returned it for the Interstellar which had a much more appropriate fit and fabric for summer months. This jacket could work great for people, but it taught me just how much of a difference there is between OR slim and regular fit!
I was looking for rain shell that I could also wear during the ski season climbing Mount near in what have you and I found it. I pack this jacket with me everywhere not just for the mountains and it keeps me dry. I love the poncho zippers, it allows me to stay dry yet have air movement on these Misty morning's up in the Pacific Northwest.
I love this jacket, lightweight and packable, especially the side zippers, I can unzip from bottom if too warm and buckle my under my jacket for much better vents, or unzip from armpits. Just came back from a trip to Arizona and Utah, kept from the cold and wind. Great investment.
Bought this jacket for a June trip to Iceland as I needed something both water and windproof. It definitely fit the bill for those two requirements. I like the zippers on the side to make it more of a poncho, helps it breathe a little that way. Also like that it packs down to fit into its own pocket. The only negatives would be the zipper sometimes sticks and it is not very warm, had to wear 3 or 4 layers underneath. It is also not super breathable, which is understandable given it is a waterproof jacket. Would recommend for a lightweight wind and waterproof jacket.
I received a "friends and family" promo code through my spouse who is a member of the pro program, so I decided to finally pull the trigger on this jacket. I struggled with what size to order as I'm often right between M and L (I am 5'10, 170lb, 34D bra size and have long limbs). I went with the L, and when it arrived it was quite baggy. The promo code I had used was no longer valid, so I called customer service to see if they could help. The person I spoke with gave me a promo code of the same value to order the M and then decide which fit better. The M is much more flattering, with just enough room to fit a warm layer underneath if needed! I haven't had a chance to wear it in heavy rain yet but am very happy with it so far.
Outdoor Research has the most flattering jacket fits for women out there. I absolutely loved the colour, look and features of this coat (double zipper in the front, poncho/pit zips, etc.). The major drawback for this jacket is the fact that the paclite material is NOT durable at all. I had two of these jackets and both jackets, the paclite coating chipped in the shoulder area. I was and am so disappointed that this is the case. The jacket would be even better if they used 3L Gore-Tex or even Gore-Tex pro (like the material used in the clairvoyant jacket).
I'm honestly shocked this raincoat has such good reviews. What kind of rain are you all wearing it in???? There is a fundamental flaw in its design: the full-length side zippers are NOT WATERPROOF. This is evident as soon as you look the coat for the first time. The front zipper is a hardy waterproof zipper, but the sides are normal zippers without the extra waterproofing. Why on earth would they have made that design choice? I purchased a 2019 model on sale in 2020. The first serious rain I was caught in -- a backpacking trip in West Virginia, where it rained steadily all the last day -- the sides and arms of my down coat/base layers underneath were totally soaked, and I was freezing. Like, it would have been dangerous had it not been the last day. My hiking partners had Patagonia shells and were both happy and dry. I contacted Outdoor Research and they said it must have been a faulty coat, and sent me a new 2020 model. That one has held up fine in light rain, but this summer I took it for a hike in the Colorado Rockies where midday thunderstorms are frequent. After a single 20-minute storm, my underlayers were already starting to get wet through the side zippers. I'm done with it. This coat may work just fine for light rain or mist-type conditions, and it does look nice and fit well. And certainly Outdoor Research has excellent customer service. But at the end of the day, this raincoat just doesn't do its primary job: keeping you dry during actual rain! I'm looking for a new one and likely going back to the Patagonia Torrentshell, which served me well for several years before I wore it out.
