Tremendous Pack at Any Price
This is one of the most thoughtfully designed packs I have ever owned. I bought this for my daughter (think tall and broad 4 yr old), thinking she'd grow into it. instead I have stolen it. From the whistle on the chest strap to the interior laptop and cord pockets and cord tunnels to the stretchy material on the water bottle holders and rain jacket stow outer pockets....it's poetry through design! We live in Brooklyn, but I grew up in Colorado hunting, fly fishing, rock climbing, and teles skiing. This pack would be appropriate for any and all of those activities. Buy this pack (no, I don't work nor have I ever worked for Osprey).
Bag for any occasion!
This bag is awesome! It's exactly what I'm looking for for an upcoming trip to California for a couple of races and site seeing. I was wanting to get a bag that would be comfortable to wear, hold my computer, multiple water bottles, and keep things organized. I know this bag will do it. The only hinky thing about this bag is that there seems to be a stain on an interior pocket. The packaging wasn't tampered with at all. The bag is in excellent shape. I just happened to open the bag, and a faint dark spot was staring back at me. Again, this bag is awesome! I may just name the stain for kicks and giggles. If you are looking for a bag for multiple functions, this is the bag for you!
I absolutely love this pack. Great laptop sleeve!
Perfect fit for a 5' 10" guy. The waist belt can be retracted into the pack, which is convenient. Looks super good (better than photo). Perfect 14" / 15" laptop sleeve + a small tablet sleeve. Plenty of room for books, jackets, lunch, etc. Incredibly comfortable. Great compartments -- love that! Does it have a hydration sleeve? No. In fast Osprey doesn't make packs that support both laptops and hydration. I asked them. So you have to pick. But you COULD fit a 2L or 3L hydration bladder pretty easily inside the pack if you really wanted to. A Nalgene/water bottle pocket exists on both sides. The straps can cinch up to make this fit well against your back. Does it have a ventilated back? NO. It allows a little bit of airflow, but nothing like the airscape or other designs they have for serious backpacking and hiking. This is intended as a commuter pack, a school pack, or a day pack. I use it as a day pack. Good for simple short hikes, great for every day use. It is SO NICE. You won't regret it as a general pack for all kinds of use.
Excellent backpack!
I bought this in mid April and have used it 2 for 2 day hikes. A lot room for all my things . Straps Are sturdy. Great product.
Great everyday backpack
I needed a new backpack for college that wasn't just two big zipper pockets and stiffly padded straps with a branded patch and suede bottom (you guys know the one I'm talking about). I wanted organization and support and something that didn't scream high school. I got all of that plus more from the Flare. I've had a big Osprey pack for years so I was familiar with the brand and knew I wanted something by them since it would be a quality item that will last. I tried out five different packs before settling on the Flare. I tried the Celeste, Ellipse, Questa, Pulsar, and Daylite Plus and none were *exactly* what I was looking for. What I found out I wanted was a Questa with the straps of an Ellipse. Well, that's basically what the Flare is! It has three zippered pockets. The smallest is for sunglasses or your phone, maybe a snack. Middle zip has three separate mesh pockets and a zippered pocket plus the open space. The biggest zip space has a laptop sleeve, a tablet sleeve, and a zippered pocket on the front of the tablet sleeve, plus the open space. I can fit a 13" macbook (in case and sleeve), ipad (in case), two textbooks, a binder, small wallet clutch, graphing calculator, and beats headphones in the big zip space comfortably when I need to. The middle can store my chargers in the inner zip, snacks and a pencil case (and more) in the open space, my headlamp, deodorant, and a bunch of chapsticks in the three mesh pockets, plus a keychain with usb's and other dangly stuff on the little hook. The smallest I don't keep anything except my sunglasses in so they don't scratch up against other items, but it's actually a roomy little pocket so there's space for more. I love the stretch mesh to stash an extra hand sanitizer and my rain layer when I have it with me. It also has a bike light attachment place at the bottom of the pack like most (possibly all) others packs in the series. Plus it has the whistle on the chest strap. Oh, the straps. SO comfortable. I couldn't stand the bulky padded straps on the Questa (they were what I was trying to get away from with my old basic backpack), but I loved the thin, flexible, breathable straps of the Ellipse which is what the Flare has, as well. And the water pockets are a good height and tightness to hold a variety of different size bottles securely. I have a basic Eddy .75 in a sleeve I carry to school and it fits perfectly. I got it in cactus green which is the color I tried out the Ellipse (didn't like the pocket configurations) and Pulsar (way too big for me) packs in and loved so was very happy to have it in the Flare. Such a nice color! Really loving this backpack and will be using it for weekend trips in the future, I am sure. Great everyday backpack and highly recommend it.
The best backpack for school that I have ever owned
I use this for school, as a daypack, out in the field, traveling and this is the BEST backpack I have ever owned. Originally, I had tried others (patagonia chacabuco) which simply did not have the internal organization I was looking for. This pack is comfortable, has awesome organization sleeves, and is perfect for everything! This will fulfill all your needs and you will love every aspect of it!
