End of an era
I purchased the original Blowfish around 1999 and it's been my go-to pack for day climbs and in-bound skiing. The zipper finally went after 16 years and I purchased this latest (and as I understand discontinued) Blowfish. First off, I'm not sure there were any improvements over the original! The improvements that I can see are that it is about 25% larger than original (you can argue pros/cons for that), reflective material, and helmet hooks. I don't bike much with it, so the last 2 improvements don't really affect me. It comes with a 70oz bladder, wish it had a 3L option, but you can easily fit a 3L bladder in if you have one.
Great pack, needs tweaking
I used my Camelbak on a 1400+ mile motorcycle trip recently. I couldn't have done the trip without it (and several refills of Nuun). Tucking the bite valve up into the chinbar of my full-face helmet made taking sips easy. However, it's difficult to drain completely and the hose flopping around makes it very easy to spill while filling if you remove the bite valve. The extra pockets are very well thought out and hold a remarkable amount of extras.
More than described.
I bought this almost a year ago at a gear sale do it didn't come with the hydration pack, which was probably better because I didn't know what its capacity was supposed to be. I easily fit my osprey 3L bladder in it and it holds it well. There's an organizer in the smaller main pocket, and there's a small pocket at the top of your bag for easy to get to small items. I've taken it backpacking, on day hikes and on my fifteen mile bike commute. My minor qualm is that when it expands, the fabric material and color Camelback used doesn't match the rest of the bag. It's a thinner material, but I haven't had an issue with it yet, and for the black and red bag it is a bright cherry red and really stands out. I would have liked black with some red highlights. All in all, a great bag.
