Light weight and good price

I purchased this rain jacket for backpacking to replace a heavier jacket I had been using. The hood is large enough to wear a hat and still cover my face. The zipper is covered by a storm flap with multiple velcro strips to keep it closed. The sleeves are a little tight at the armpit and bicep area so putting on the jacket over a medium weight fleece, for fall backpacking, is tight. Once I pulled the fleece sleeves down, into the jacket sleeves, the jacket fits well, and the pockets have waterproof zippers. The jacket does not have pit zips, but is more durable than the North Face rain jackets, which cost more. For the price, fit, and durability, I am quite satisfied.

I use this shell for casual walking/hiking in often wet weather. Waterproof and breathable aspect lives up to its name. However, as someone who has long used Columbia outerwear, I find this jacket poorly designed and cheaply made. My medium fits too tightly to layer well underneath. The hood toggle chord is hard to adjust; when cinched tight, the ends slap you in the face, and when not, the length between the hood and the toggle create an arching loop that bothers your chin, gets in your lower field of vision and generally looks ridiculous. The fact that there is no inside pocket is another major detraction (if I had realized before I bought it, I would never have purchased a jacket without one). The edges along both sides of the zipper are already frayed after just a few weeks of wear.

We recently purchased 8 Columbia raincoats for an upcoming family vacation to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. We are very happy with the raincoats they are light weight, packable, comfortable, come in various colors and sizes to choose from.

Columbia Watertight II Rain Jkt

Has performed great in heavy and light rain but have only been in the elements for less than an hour each time. Does great against the wind as well. For a rain jacket and the price is exactly what I wanted. Very functional and the all black looks nice. I bought this in the winter and it has been flawless with the cold weather. With the recent warmer weather I've noticed that I get warm in this jacket quickly. There are no pit zips on this jacket for ventilation but personally I'm glad they don't have them because I find most of the time they are uncomfortable. However, I have really enjoyed having this as a rain jacket and would buy another in the future.

Great Packable Jacket!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m a bigger guy which makes finding jackets a little harder. And not everyone makes Big and Tall sizes! This jacket is perfect! The 3XL fits me perfectly! And with Wyomings unpredictable weather it’s the perfect addition whether I’m throwing it in my backpack or in car for a road-trip! It stands up to everything!

Rain Jacket held up to Yellowstone & Teton storms

I bought this rain jacket for a backpacking trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP because, well, us Texans don't have a need for rain jackets. I'm 5'10" 195lb and bought a large which gave me enough room to wear a thin puffy jacket underneath and still feel comfortable. The jacket kept me dry in a heavy 90-minute storm at the bottom of Seven Mile Hole and another moderate 90-minute storm on my way back from Lake Solitude. It also helped break the wind and keep me warm.

Water rolls

My buddy and I both bought these jackets on sale at REI before we went onto the A.T. It was windy and rainy. This rain jacket was light and comfortable. The rain slid right off and we were not effected. I am a football coach and can't wait to use this jacket on rainy days. It is also fashionable to wear on any rainy day a well. It has pulls on the bottom and around the sleeve to help preserve body heat on cold days too.

Quality basic shell

The value for a Columbia jacket is what drew me to this item. I live in San Diego, CA and need rain protection for about 4 hours a year, so this basic shell is perfect for me. Not a whole lot of bells and whistles, but it keeps me dry on wet hikes. Pros: very light weight, packs into its own pocket, good fit/cut, quality water repellent. Cons: no breast pocket, the pockets are offset by about an inch, so one hand sits about an inch lower than the other.

Great jacket, but not waterproof

I'm a 5'8" woman, bought a men's Large. The jacket fits well, with plenty of room for layering, looks great, good length. Just after I got it, I wore it in very light rain for a few hours and the outer layer soaked through. I didn't get wet because the inside web layer kept the wet outer layer off me, but in a heavier rain that wouldn't work. I really like this jacket, but would not call it waterproof.
