Rated 5 out of 5 by from ROCK OUT 2 I WAS ORIGINALLY EXCITED JUST TO HAVE THE FUNCTIONALLITY OF THE HAVING THE BUTTONS ON THE OUTSIDE AND THEN I POWERED IT UP AND STARTED PLAYING SOME TUNES. AN UPGRADE TO THE SOUND IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. I ALSO ENJOY THE BUILT IN CABLES, GREAT DESIGN. I WAS A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SIZE BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST FEATURES FOR ME. I HAVE A GALAXY SIII WITH A VERY LARGE OTTERBOX CASE AND THE PHONE FITS PERFECTLY INSIDE THE SPEAKER MAKING IT THAT MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY. I ALSO LOVE THE CAMO COLOR. I THINK I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT MY SATISFATION WITH THE NEW DESIGN BUT I WILL LEAVE IT AT THAT. THANKS GOAL ZERO FOR ANOTHER GREAT PRODUCT!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great sound, but lacking innovation I own the predecessor of this speaker set up and have taken it everywhere, really everywhere. Both speaker systems produce awesome quality sound for the size and price. Though I'm glad to see the integrated controls for volume and cell phone, there were other changes made that are obvious steps in the wrong ddirection. Fully integrating the charge and audio cable is a mistake, the wiring is the weakest link in the system, once it wears out the system is useless, perhaps bluetooth connectivity would have been a more beneficial feature that I would have paid extra for, and removeable auxiliary and charging cables.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow I love music, but hate ear buds. Solution is this thing by far. I got mine on October 23 and didn't have to charge it till November 9. I didn't play it for two days maybe and the other days were medium to very loud when I did play it. From the math I got about 22 hours before it started getting finicky and I used it about another two or three after that. Like most other portable speakers they don't have a lot of bass but with an equalizer these are by far the best I have found. Little heavier than I was expecting by about 4-5 oz. Front button functionality with besides volume doesn't work with Google Play Music, Iheartradio app, or old Zune.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as I expected... I bought one shortly after they came out. Took a bit of finagling, but I got one. I was super excited, as I have the original RockOut, and it works great. I figured that this would be better, only slightly bigger, better battery, and both the speakers and controls on the outside (Since the original doesn't have controls), while keeping my MP3 player inside and protected. Everything was fine until I started using it for my iPad as an external speaker. It cuts out. As in, I get a few seconds of audio, then silence for a few seconds, then it is back on again. I have used it a few times, and still get the same situation. I have no idea what is happening.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Speaker with a small issue... So I bought the Rock Out 2 with little expectations as I have had a ton of portable speakers over the years and none of them are any good. The Rock out 2 system is truley a quality sounding speaker. I will be using these on scooter, cycle and hiking trips in the near future. The only issue I have had with all 3 sets I own is there seems to be a connectivity issue with the mini plug wiring. They tend to get a bit staticy when being plugged in and a couple of times it blanked out. I flexed the area of the plug where the wires connect to the green plug and it seemed to go away. Hoping there is not a Quality Control issue with these. I would buy these and recomend them to my friends!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crisp, Clear Sound Any Place I've had dozens of portable speakers over the years. For the price, I've never heard anything that compares to the sound of the Goal Zero Rockout 2 speaker, especially compared with the first generation. The sound is very balanced with crisp, clear highs, smooth mids and aggressive but not boomy bass. It sounds much louder than the old version even though the speaker size and drivers are pretty much the same. The form factor is also much better than the outgoing version. It actually looks like a speaker! The exterior controls worked perfectly on my iPhone 4, iPod Touch, and Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone. For the money, it's the best sounding and performing portable speaker on the market. Now, make a bluetooth version.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I just got one as an early Christmas gift. I wish I had known the external buttons are optimized for Windows or I phone. Although it sounds great and will serve its purpose(mountain and road biking),it sucks that I won't be able to use it to its fullest extent, unless I go buy an I phone since I have as Galaxy S6. I thought my I pod Nano or Touch would work. But nope, same results, can't use external buttons. Have to stop, open the GZ and use the buttons from whatever I have attached to the GZ. Still a good product, but maybe the description should specify that external button are optimized for Windows or I phone.

I can't seem to get the external controls - other than volume control - to work on my Apple Ipod. Any suggestions?

Asked by: Cathail
The Rock Out 2 external controls are optimized to work with most smartphones - however, technology is always changing. The function of the external audio controls may vary based on the music player app in use. No matter your device, you'll still be able to experience incredible sound from the Rock Out 2. We apologize for the inconvenience!
