I have had this bag for 3 years and I am very happy with its durability, weight, and size. Recently, it passed the test of extremes. I brought this on a 3 day New Year's eve backpacking trip in the Needles (Canyonlands Utah) after a snow. The low was 8 deg F (-13 C). With a good sleeping pad (high R value), a cool max liner, and hand warmers in the socks for added comfort, I slept quite well, and I get cold easily. For me that means that it was a good decision to buy a bag that was lighter and smaller for carrying less when summer backpacking, because this bag can still handle winter and swing season temperatures.
I recently purchased this bag and used it for the first time up in Northern MN for a 3-day backpacking trip on the SHT. I was thoroughly impressed! The down-filling is extremely compressible and light. It got much colder (just below freezing) than I'd originally anticipated, yet I stayed nice and toasty through the night. I usually have a hard time sleeping on the ground but I can honestly say, I slept just about as good as if I were in my own bed! I made a divot in the ground under my sleeping pad for my butt, threw my empty pack under my knees, used my jacket in a stuff sack as a pillow, and then curled up in this dream-cloud of a sleeping bag, and my Lord, I slept like baby. It was awesome.
I finally decided to invest in a quality sleeping bag and this one is everything I ever wanted. I took it out for a cold misty weekend in Oregon and slept like a rock. I'm usually very sensitive to cold and freeze when I camp and the extra foot insulation was awesome since my socks got soaked, forcing me to sleep barefoot. The hood was easy to tighten up around my head and the color and pattern are beautiful (the blue is a deeper blue than the picture shows and is pretty stunning if you're into that sort of thing). Very light and stuffs down pretty small. Overall, super happy about it and excited for future trips.
Bought this bag for my wife. She is cold natured and I wanted a bag that would keep her warm (and happy) so after reading the reviews I was sold then we tried it out. We didn't push the temp limits of the bag by any stretch (50 deg night) but it kept her very comfortable. Water resistant down is very nice feature. The only downside is that because of the high loft of the down, it was quite a chore to squeeze it into a 13L stuff sack then squeezing the stuff sack into her Deuter Act Lite 45+10 sleeping bag compartment took a little effort but not unreasonable. Everything in life has trade-offs.
I bought this for my scout camping trip this weekend when the temps were expected to dip in the low 30/upper 20's. I'm only 5'3" but I opted for the long bag so I can fit a few clothes in the bottom to keep them warm. I found there was plenty of room to be comfortable and not feel restricted. I woke up to a heavy frost outside but I was comfortably warm all night. I was able to fit the bag in the sleeping bag compartment of my 55L backpack, however, it was a bit of a struggle. I knew this when I bought it but if space is an issue, you may wish to check out bags that will compress more.
This is a great quality sleeping bag. It's very comfortable and holds heat well. I used it in Yosemite National Park when it got to 30 degrees at night; I couldn't even tell it was that cold, despite the frost on our tent. I highly recommend this product.
I've only used it 2 nights in the Sierras but I loved it! It was extremely comfortable and warm (even for someone who is always cold). With a compression sack it reduces down to a pretty compact size. Looking forward to more trips with it!
Got this bag for overnights in Nov. in the Smokey Mountains. It is beautiful, in my opinion, as well as roomy. The zippers are nice and snug, so I've been working them back and forth to loosen for my hike. Bought a separate ground pad for this bag, but not sure how to attach them so the bag does not slip off of the pad. Don't know that that will happen anyway. I used "compare" feature on REIs website to make my decision about this bag. I think I made a very good choice with a great price. I joined REI before this purchase, so I saved an automatic $20 when I bought it. Shipping was free and prompt.
I bought this sleeping bag hoping it might work for my 12 year old daughter. We both gave it a test run in the backyard on a night when the temp was in the mid 30's. I was nice and warm in it and the fabric is quite durable and kept the breeze from penetrating through the fabric. It is a beautiful color, much prettier than in the picture. The only concern was that the top half of the bag is wide, which for a rather slender person meant that there were some cold spots. We ended up returning it in search of a bag that is narrower at the top. However, I would recommend this sleeping bag to any regular sized grown up who wants to stay warm on 35 degree night. Great price, also.
Bought this for my wife for back packing and car camping because she was always cold with her old bag. On our last trip in the Sawtooths it got down to 35 in the tent and she stripped down to under wear because of the warmth of this thing. Great bag!
