Details

  • Three-antenna system pinpoints the location of burials within a 50m range regardless of antenna orientation and burial depth
  • In a multiple-burial scenario, the unit works to transmit a signal without overlapping other signals
  • Eliminating signal overlap allows the searcher to quickly interpret the audible and visual information with increased accuracy and less confusion
  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology displays the number of buried victims as stick figures on an easy-to-view LCD screen
  • When signals are detected, the approximate distance and direction to the burials are immediately displayed—simply follow the arrows to reach a burial
  • Upon locating the position of the first victim, the searcher can mark and mask the found signal and immediately begin searching for other burials; DSP Sport marks one signal
  • Self-check tests all major functions as the transceiver is powering on, including transmitting frequency and operation of antennas, amplifiers, processors and batteries
  • Adjustable, nylon harness with pouch keeps the unit secure and accessible
  • Compatible with all transceivers operating on the 457 kHz frequency
  • Can be used with Pieps iProbe (sold separately); iProbe can temporarily suppress the signal of a transmitting Pieps transceiver to make searching for multiple burials easier
  • Pieps DSP Sport avalanche transceiver operates on 3 AAA batteries, included
  • Software can be updated via USB (cable not included)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't go into the backcountry without it! Ok, you could go into the backcountry with another transceiver, but if you're shopping around, this one deserves a serious look. Simplified functionality, good battery life and great range are some of it's high points. A large part of my buying decision was due to very favorable independent reviews of this transceiver (search online and you can easily find them). I train with folks who use all different brands (Pieps included) and the Pieps receivers all seem to get a signal much further/faster than the other brands. My only (minor) complaint is that it's somewhat tricky to manipulate the lock switch/slider while wearing mitts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Beacon for all! Although I work as a ski patroller, this beacon is easy to use for anyone. Coming from analog types years ago it took getting use to slowing down to allow the beacon to read the path. With this digital beacon I have drastically sped up my search times and with their multiple antennas my fine grid was fast too:) only thing that needs to be worked on is the carrying case since th buckle is hard to undo with gloves and if rather just have the beacon with a good strap for the chest. this beacon also works well for multiple burials. I am stoked at its ease and long battery life in the mountains workin all day. I wear it daily and don't go out with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great over all beacon Easy to use, small package, light and perfect for recreational use. I haven't read about all the features or explored them yet but I knew how to use the basic and multi burial features just from looking at the beacon and 5 min of playing with it. When stress is high simplicity is key and this beacon is perfect for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use, great range, fast The DSP Sport is the easiest and most accurate beacon I've used. It has great range; easily pulls in a signal at 50+ meters. It hones in quickly during searches and the distance/burial depth indicator is super accurate. The easy to use multi-burial search function is enhanced by fool proof signal marking. And the search mode is not easily turned off by accident.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from simplicity as advertized In short, Beacons are best appreciated when the operator practices using them regularly. And yes, I have always used this particular beacon during my avalanche rescue training for my search & rescue unit & for ski patrol. However, the simplicity of this design is easily a no-brainer. It's affordable & highly comparable to the other beacons on the market. I will note that I have used other brands such as the bca tracker & mammut & ortovox. I prefer this one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I got this beacon because I love Black Diamond, I needed a reasonably priced beacon that had a flagging feature. This one fit the picture. It's pretty easy to use, the harness for it is easy to adjust and comfortable. However, the part of the beacon on the lower corner that connects to the wrist strap is flimsy and, broke quickly. Along with that the sliding component that allows you to go into send or search mode is starting to stick but is still functional. All in all I am satisfied with this beacon. I personally think it's better then the tracker 3. It's an awesome beacon for someone just starting to dabble in backcountry skiing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good technology, questionable build. Beacon functions work excellently, as expected. The build design makes it easy to have the function slide change accidentally. Main concern is the lock being pushed in the event of an avalanche and the slide also being pushed, turning the beacon to off or Send. The likelihood is low, but possible. Harness is sweet, aside from how cumbersome it is to tighten up the sling and how it is self-loosening over the course of a day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like the convenience of the features and controls. I have been using this product for the past month and have really come to like it. The harness system adjusts well and stays in place while hiking and skiing. The display is easily readable and makes sense. It is easy to operate with gloves on and I feel confident that it will function well if I ever need it to.
