Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Disc Golf Can't speak to their capabilities as a long distance hiking /trail running shoe, but they offer everything I look for in a disc golf shoe. They are durable - tread is still great after almost a year of use playing disc golf (navigating trails, long walks, pivoting on cement tee boxes, toe drag, etc). Lacing system stays in place, GoreTex still good. They offer great support and are comfortable. They do run a bit narrow as others have stated, but I have narrow feet, so I can't say that's a negative. A bit stiff at first, but after a couple weeks, they broke in to be more flexible. Still as comfortable as the first day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Trail Running! The Terrex Swift R GTX are comfortable, versatile, stylish, rugged, and sturdy. I live in Boulder, CO and shred gnarly mountain trails 2-3x/week. Been enjoying these shoes for the past 6 months, and still love them. Excellent traction for charging uphill on rock, dirt, sand, mud - and extra stability for downhills. The US size 10 fits just as expected, no problem. The lacing system is very helpful: makes it really easy to adjust tightness for different circumstances. I'll never again wear athletic shoes with standard laces - once you've run in these, there's no going back. Like having a lightweight, comfy suit of armor for your feet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shoe This is a great looking comfortable shoe. The bungee lace allows for quick on and off with excellent fit. I have used these shoes to stand up all day at work, out on trails, etc. They have outperformed any shoe I have ever owned. The gore-tex has kept my feet dry through rain, puddles, and snow. The traction provided by the soles is by far above and beyond any other shoe I have used. The only downside I could think of is the black heating up in the summer sun. However, the upside to the color is making them stylish/low-profile enough to wear as a business-casual shoe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight and unexpected Needed a pair of shoes to wear around town as well as the trail. I rarely purchase an item that is strictly a one purpose item. So finding these at my local REI was a pleasant surprise. The unexpected part was Adidas name on the shoe. They have a snug but not uncomfortable fit, great for climbing steep grades and not having your shoes sliding so much on your feet that you develop sores. I do like the cable lace system easy and quick on and off. I don't have any complaints as of yet, and the only reason I am not giving 5 stars is the fact I have not had them on in 90+ degree heat full sun beating down, so I don't yet know how hot they will be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent at what they're designed for Fit. Perfect for my type of foot. Narrow in the back, wide mid and tapered toes. Those that say its narrow aren't explaining this shoe properly. Asolo Fugitives are narrow, these are much different. Perfect for long sloping rock slab descents as the toe box holds perfectly without ever letting you hit the front. The support is unreal in a below the ankle hiking shoe. I use these as a light hiker and rock scrambler up to 20 miles or so. The traction on rocks and especially downhills is something you should experience if these fit you....far beyond that of most hiking shoes/boots. I wouldn't say they're something a beginner or light day hiker would need or even appreciate. If your the type who likes Merrill's than I wouldn't think you are looking for what these offer. The bottoms are fairly rigid and not suited for jogging or walking around in a non hiking environment. They're too stiff for leisure activity but almost brilliant as a fast hiker when there is a lot of elevation gain/loss. Perfectly waterproof for quick jaunts in mud or streams. The tread lasts much longer than you would think considering the remarkable traction. To me these represent the maximum support possible in a lightweight shoe. The tradeoff is absolute cushy comfort like a Merrill.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wearing out too soon We bought these for my 13 yr. old son (paid $100) in early January and in early April he was showing me how the front lip was peeling back already. This was after only occasional wear - not everyday - but definitely outdoors for scouts camping and bike riding. The GTX waterproof works great and he found them to be comfortable, but for this much money they should be holding up longer than 3 months. Thank goodness for REI return policy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool looks, solid performance Pros: Unbelievable grip, waterproof, comfortable Cons: A bit narrow. I wore these on an overnight backpacking trip on the PCT and they worked flawlessly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NARROW/TIGHT Saw these online and drove 2 hours to a store that had them in stock-went up a full size-was in heaven the first minute because these are built like a tank and I was able to slip my feet in and it takes only a second to secure with the speed lacing system. THey felt good, however once Istood up and tried walking around I immediately had hotspots-THESE ARE SO NARROW ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY-also they are too well made-these are so stiff I cant imagine hiking in them without problems-I think these would be awesome shoes for someone with narrow feet that wants a good casual sneaker but not for the outdoors-trails.

Looking at a waterproof trail runner. Had a pair of Solomons and they served me well. Am looking at the Adidas swift R GTX. How are they for running trails through woods, up mountains and along snow covered roads?

Asked by: ADKPastor
These hiking shoes are a fine choice and can be used for trial running. The polyamide protection plate gives you a lot of support and stability. The Gore-Tex waterproof/breathable membrane keeps your foot dry. Finally, the aggressive rubber outsoles provide traction on trails and snowy roads.

I have the La Sportiva Synthesis and was looking to trade them in for these because these I can wear in more business casual environments (I go from office to field constantly). I keep reading these are narrow, are they as narrow as the La Sportiva?

Asked by: etron03
The Terrex Swift R GTX Hiking Shoes have been known to run narrow. Especially compared to the La Sportiva Synthesis.
