Wear almost every day
When I first saw these I totally skeptical because they appear cheap and I thought they were a total scam. However a good friend convinced me I had to try them. I now have four and can't get enough - I wear almost every day year round when biking, running, hiking, skiing, and even just around the house. I have a small head and it's the first headband/hat that fits. Provides just the right warmth year round in the PNW, great at wicking, and perfect for protecting from sunburns. I wore one for 2 weeks in Alaska and the smell doesn't come out anymore, which is the only downside. Can also wear as a neck gaiter.
great Buff quality
I have owned a regular sized buff for several years, and it still works great. I wear it running, hiking, and (the best use I think) for keeping my ears warm when I'm biking. It fits snugly under a helmet (unlike a winter hat) and doesn't move around. Since I only had one, I wanted another to switch out with so I don't have to wash/dry my only one every day. The half buff is just as great. Keeps your hair back, keeps your ears warm while running or biking, and also can be worn just as a headband, without looking too sporty. Buffs are expensive but worth it since they're high quality and great for any weather -wick away sweat in the summer and keep ears warm in the winter.
Love, love these things
I just ordered another one of these. I consider this one of the perfect outdoor products. I've used my first one for warming my neck and head in the winter, as a headband in hot weather and even as a cool down towel during long, hot hikes in Yosemite. Wet it and wrap it around your neck and you're good to go. Despite heavy use and many washings it still functions great. This thing is always included on hikes and backpacking trips because it has so many uses and acts as a great survival tool that takes up almost no room.
Excellent product
I have several of these - they're among my favorite gear. They are perfect for keeping my hair out of my face during workouts of all kinds, and are the best bike helmet liner I've found. They block sun and I never get sunburns on my ears or the part in my hair when I wear them. The unfinished edges are deliberate on the part of the manufacturer - they keep the Buff from having lumps and bumps that rub and hurt. I have used full sized Buffs for years, but as a helmet liner or headband for working out, these half sized ones are much, much better. Sometimes you need the extra fabric, but the full sized ones are too bulky as a helmet liner, and too warm in summer for a headband since you have to either fold them up or scrunch them. I've never had a problem with them stretching out, fraying or falling off. If they move you just put them back - no headband will always stay put. Washing is a breeze. They seem to shed dirt. I just rinse them out in the sink and they dry super fast. They never retain stains or odor.
Good helmet liner/keeps the sweat out of my eyes
I had been looking for a helmet liner that would wick away more sweat than the sporadic pads in the helmet. It seemed that the UV feature would also help keep the rays off my balding head. For these purposes, the UV Half Buff seems to work well. Being open-ended, it does not fully cover the top of my head, but the fabric lays so that coverage is almost complete. Maybe the Half Buff could be an inch longer, but it gets the job done. I tried the full-length Buff and you can get more of a skullcap coverage, but with a long tail hanging back over your neck. That did not work for me. Outside of a helmet liner, the Half Buff is suited to be a head kerchief for running, hiking or other exercise. Think of it as really wide head band. I am satisfied and would recommend this product. Some reviewers are bothered by the apparent unfinished edges, but I think this is on purpose. Seams might cause discomfort, and the ends are not frayed. When on your head, the fabric lays so that the edge is not visible.
Versatile buff
This is the second of this half buffs I've purchased. Bought the first one 8 months ago for the purpose of keeping my balding from getting streaks of sunburn thru the slots in my cycle helmet. Found it was just the right size to slide on and brush back on top to cover the top of my head. No apparent seams adding pressure points while being worn. Several months later I purchased a second so I could always find one of them. I've also discovered this is just right for pulling over my ears to keep the wind chill down ( and avoid earaches) now that the weather has cooled some. I've been out a couple hours at a time with temps in the upper thirties, and up, and been quite comfortable while running errands. Temps above forty and two hour rides are also fine. For colder climates than Seattle this probably is too light weight. I've tried a couple of the "skull cap" type liners and didn't like the pressure points created by their seams. ps: use cold water cleaner ( like woolite) and hand wash.
middling to sloppy
Wore this as a headband during a couple of training runs and while doing regular training at the gym. The material, while breathable, had some serious styling and construction issues. The fact that it had unfinished edges made the buff look cheap, as if someone just grabbed a pair of scissors and cut off every 5 inches of fabric bolt. This somewhat lame construction - and perhaps the content of the fabric and lack of any spandex or similar stretchy material - contributed to the buff slipping off my head every once in a while or developing a weird "triangle" shape that was not attractive.
Love It!
Have several. Great way to keep hair back without having to constantly retie. Can't ever get a bandana to stay on head all day unless I tie too tight to begin with - 1/2 buff solves the problem. Bought matching one for my niece when we ran 5K together - she now wants another to match her soccer uniform.
Useful for workouts and everyday use
These make a great headband for hair management! The half buff has sufficient length, more than the headband buff and less than the full buff
Half is twice as good.
The UV Half Buff is better in high temp situations than the Full Buff because it has less bulk and thickness. In high desert conditions of heavy gusts and blowing sand, the Half really performs. The Half is a new permanent addition to my "go" bag.
