10 oz is a lot for a backpacking pillow, I know, I hiked the AT w a pack that was usually under 20 lbs with full water and food, and the me that did that 10 years ago would slap me across the face for promoting such an excessive luxury as this. But good god, if it's wrong I don't want to be right. Also, whoever said it doesn't have enough lift, there is a pocket of elastic cords on the back of it you can stuff clothes or tater tots or whatever you want into

Not Enough Lift for Side Sleeper
slick7108514
Sadly, I had to return this pillow. It was just too uncomfortable. I wanted to like this pillow, because of its weight and size, but it was just not comfortable for me. Pros: Light, small, straps on underside allow you to cram in clothes to loft up pillow Cons: Crinkly sounding, uncomfortable, not enough lift for your head for side sleepers. I am a side sleeper and this pillow is just not thick enough to properly lift my head up. After 3 nights of trying to sleep with this pillow, I had terrible neck pain. I currently use a thermarest compressible pillow and I much prefer thermarest to this pillow. It provides much more lift. Plus, this pillow is really loud unlike the thermarest. If you are a back sleeper and want a firm pillow, then this is probably the pillow for you. If you are a side sleeper and want something that will lift your head up, then this is not the pillow for you.

Side sleepers take note!

After many restless nights on the trail using crumpled-up clothes or other makeshift pillows, I decided to invest in a quality backcountry pillow. Because I am a side-sleeper, I needed to find one that had enough height and bulk to support my head. I used it for the first time last night and loved it. The combination of the inflatable air bladder and memory foam is perfect--it's the ideal height and very comfortable. I did not need to add any bulk under the pillow in the elastic netting on the bottom side of the pillow, but YMMV. It also fits inside the pillow pouch of my Big Agnes Encampment sleeping bag. This pillow is expensive, but worth every penny.

No more stuffing clothes!

I work as an outdoor adventure guide and spend 130 + days a year camping/backpacking. Until this past year I always did the ol' stuff the stuff sack full of extra clothes and have it constantly shift and never have the right support thing. Then my mother bought one of these and I tried it out and fell in love! If you are on the fence about adding a Fillo to your backpacking kit, it is certainly worth it's weight and space as a splurge comfort item! Pros: Very comfortable, compact, has held up well these past 6 + months of high use, washable case! Cons: Slides around a bit when not nestled properly into sleeping bag.

So comfy!

I brought this pillow on a 3 day backpacking trip. My friend had a standard blow up pillow that was super uncomfortable. I don't know about you but if I'm hiking 12 miles a day with 25 lbs on my back I like to get a decent night's sleep. The thin memory foam layer is worth it, this pillow was so comfortable. Didn't feel like I was sleeping on plastic air, and no crinkly noises! It packs down easily into it's attached sack since memory foam is very compressible. Easy to wash the exterior as well as the memory foam is removable. This pillow is 100% worth the extra cost/weight for a backpacking trip.

Great pillow- stays inflated regardless-

This is the second NEMO Fillo pillow I've bought (I lost the first one on a trip and had to buy a second), and I'm sold on them. I use it sleeping at night, for a back cushion in an airplane seat or chair, and also occasionally sit on it when the seat is too hard or uncomfortable- and it always stays fully inflated. It's easy to inflate with just a small amount of air and very easy to release the air and inflate so I can carry it in my computer case or backpack. It's become a real travel necessity for me. Really like it and recommend it highly.

Most comfortable camping pillow

For years I just assumed that people slept miserably when backpacking. In the past I've used jackets, clothing, my pack, or an air pillow. Then I started doing a little bit of pillow research and thought I'd give this a shot. This has a combination of foam and an air chamber. Holy great nights sleep! The fill on this really does make a difference. It works perfectly with the small bit of air it holds and provides a nice, soft pillow. I can't comment on long term durability since I only have a few nights with it, but it's holding up quite well so far.

comfortable but wrong shape for sleeping bag

I bought this to go with my Nemo Viola sleeping bag (as recommended in the REI description). However, the rectangular pillow does not fit into the half-moon pillow space in my Nemo backpack. I have to deflate the pillow quite a bit, then stuff it into the sleeping bag pillow opening, then inflate it, but it does inflate evenly or totally. So, while the pillow is comfortable outside the sleeping bag, once it's in there, its comfort factor decreases considerably. I hope NEMO will come up with something that fits its own sleeping bags, and I think REI should be cautious about recommending it. $40 is pricey for something that doesn't fit properly.

Pro Tip to keep the pillow in place

This is simply the best camping pillow out there. So go out and buy it, and then do this: Untie and remove the shock cord from the back of the pillow. Rethread the shock cord through the four corner sewn loops to make a |X| configuration, and tie the ends together. Place the pillow on your sleeping pad, and slip the X of the shock cord around the pad. Viola! Your pillow will stay in place all night under your sleeping bag. You won't get to feel the soft microfiber on your face, but that doesn't bother me nearly as much as a roaming pillow!

Search for camp pillow is over

I use the Fillo on kayak camping trips. I'm well into my 50's so I really need a good night sleep. For years, I've been searching for a good camp pillow. I'm a side sleeper, so most pillows just don't have bulk needed to get my head up. So a stuff sack of clothes was the best option. Until now. This pillow is perfect. First, the air pillow can adjust to just the softness you prefer. Next, the micro fleece fabric feels great on your skin. But the best thing for me is the webbing on the bottom allows me to use a sweater or coat to bulk it up to the perfect size. It makes no noise, and is soooo comfortable. It stuffs into an attached sac. It's only slightly smaller than my NeoAir pad, and just slightly larger than foam pillows I've tried before. So not that compact, but well worth the space. Nor is it inexpensive. But it seems well-made and ingeniously designed. It washed up well once I got home, and seems durable. Love it. Great product.

Good at home and afield.

I've had mine at least two years and gave Fillos as gifts to 2 others. The wt. seems a good trade-off for comfort sitting or sleeping. My daughter and I will take them on our Camino de Santiago next year. Only fault has been one loop holding the elastic stuff cord on the back detached and needs minor sewing to repair. The nylon loop should be heat sealed on the end to help the sewing from slipping through so be careful pulling on it.
