Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water shoe from a non-sandal wearer I am not a sandal wearer. I don't like sandals. I don't buy sandals. But I needed sandals and/or water shoes for a trip to AZ. My wife sent me to WalMart for a discount pair that wasn't comfortable and unsightly. When I arrived at REI, I was lured to the Keen because it looked like a durable water shoe. Within moments of trying on the Keen, I knew the fit, protection, and comfort was for me. This week, I am in the AZ rivers with the Keens on and I am in total comfort. The water shoe allows me to hike in, go deep into the rivers, and hike out without cuts or pebble pressure pains. I would highly recommend the Keens for anyone not wanting a sandal, but a durable water shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great, versatile sandals Used the Keen men's CNX Clearwater sandals for wade fly fishing in Yellowstone National Park. They were comfortable, provided excellent footing on rocks above and under water, and dried quickly. Later, I used them for casual wear while sightseeing on dry land. They are sylish, lightweight, flexible and extremely versatile. I like the way the toe box protects the wearer's toes, an important feature when bumping into unseen underwater rocks. This sandal seems to fit the need for a wet-wading sandal that can also serve as a smart-looking casual shoe. Excellent product design and quality!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keen; good new product Not quite as cushy as my other pair of Keen sandals, but still very comfortable, even on hard surfaces. I bought these because they are marginally smaller in weight and profile. Easier to pack for travel, yet still versatile for city/shopping/museums as well as light hiking. These should also allow for a light to medium weight hiking sock for short trail hikes. I also like the color and trim choices. Staff was helpful about Keen and very professional. My second pair of Keens within the past year, and I will look at other Keen styles next time I visit our Jacksonville REI. Really glad to have you in here in Jacksonville!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, lightweight water shoe These are wonderfully lightweight and comfortable for the amount of foot coverage, support, and protection offered. They are a great alternative to some of the heavier sandals/watershoes out there and are more substantial than many of the "barefoot" style shoes. Width is a bit narrow for the sizing, as is the case with many Keen shoes, but simply going up a size would cause toe stubbing for me. They really need to offere multiple widths. As a result, however, I have not really ever had to tighten the quick-laces at all and have not felt like I was about to lose them yet with moderate use walking and hiking. I plan to put them to the ultimate test--whitewater rafting--very soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light Weight Comfort and Great Foot Protection Bought these a couple of weeks ago. I have enjoyed wearing them practically any time I can since then! I bought them because they are a perfect balance of protection for my feet, breathability, and light weight. I just finished up a 4 day hike and I looked forward to putting them on every night in camp. I also found the minimal bulk to be a real plus when stuffing them in the outside pocket of my pack. I have worn Keen shoes for a long time, but these are the first Keen sandals I have worn and I am definitely pleased with how they feel and wear with such minimal weight. Basically perfect if you are looking for a versatile camp shoe, or even every day summer footwear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improved H2 I owned a pair of Keen H2's that lasted 7 years, and when they finally gave up the ghost I was in the market for a similar sandal that could easily transition from boats and water to dry land. I tried out everything available at REI including all manner or Chaco's and Keens and was really blown away by the fit of the CNX. I loved my H2's but after 7 years had forgotten that when new the H2's took a while to get used to and to break in. Not so with the CNX, with their lower profile sole they fit like a glove right out of the box. They are also a lot lighter weight than the H2. For me it was no brainer, better fitting and lighter weight, I came in fully expecting to buy a pair of H2's and ended up taking these home instead. My girlfriend went through a similar experience sandal shopping and also ended up with the Clearwater CNX. Simply put they are a great all around sandal, equally at home on the street, trail or in the water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My weekend sandal/shoe for the summer this is my first time I purchased a shoe like this. I was hesitant at first but changed my mind the minute I tried them on. They breathed well(obviously) and seem to be build pretty strongly. Great sole, good grip and is very comfortable. I choose the Forest Night/Rust color. Looks great with every pair of shorts I have. This is now my weekend sandal/shoe for the summer. Any and all activities I'd say I am very hard on my feet, and wear footware out really quick. However, so far these seem to be taking the abuse well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sandal! Initially, I was looking for a good camp sandal or shoe, as I hate flip flops and shoes like crocs tend to pull on the hair on my feet. I found these to be a great choice, not only on for the camp site, but as an alternative shoe to get to the campsite to begin with. They fit my feet well, I feel the ground without the pain of a poorly made sole, and I love the arch support.

I have a pair of Keen Newport H2 that I really like and am considering a pair of the Clearwater CNX-- for a different color. How are the two styles different?

Asked by: Earlmuck
There is not a huge difference between the Clearwater CNX Sandals and the Newport H2 Sandals. The biggest difference is the Clearwater CNX Sandals will be more of a minimalist style sandal that will be lighter in weight. The Newport H2s will be heavier duty and provide more support.

Do I need to and can I wear socks with these? Can I hike in them? If I could, how long do they last? How well do they perform in water and on trails? What are the advantages and disadvantages of closed-toe? Do they collect rocks, sands in the closed-toe?

Asked by: LeoFromLA
Socks are not required. These sandals run slightly small to insure a good fit in wet conditions, so if you plan on wearing socks, consider this when selecting your size. These are not designed for hiking, just water environments. The closed toe is a benefit, protecting the toes and reducing the amount of grit you may get into the shoe.
