Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 4th pair, and not my last These are my fourth pair and not my last, need I say more. I live in these shoes and they never let me down. They replaced my hiking boots, replaced my fancy sneakers, and replaced my comfortable Crocs. Great on concrete, have grip on wet surfaces, smooth out the rocks, never break. I literally wear the soles down, decide they are looking a bit to scruffy, and get a new pair. The only down I have found is that they are not good in loose sand. Where a Croc or flip flop (we call them slippahs here) will shake out the sand, these will not. My feet look like they have tiger stripes from the sun; this might be a negative for some.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All Time Favorite Shoe This is literally my favorite shoe of all time. I choose this sandal over any of the other popular Chacos because it covers my toes... so I can wear this while bicycling. I have been wearing this shoe literally every day there isn't snow on the ground for the last two years. They are starting to wear out on the bottom, and I've had to replace the laces, but other than that these shoes are SO durable. I biked across America in these, have hiked up and down mountains, and the appalachian trail in them, and wore them every day for two semesters abroad in Guatemala. Absolutely no regret in these shoes. When these wear out, I will definitely be buying a second pair. I'm curious to know how long the next pair will last!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoes I pick the Newport Keens over others because of the high rubber sole that rises around the edge of your foot. This keeps almost all dirt and debris out of your sandal. They aren't good on dry sand or scree slopes, but I do a lot of casual hiking at PA state parks with no problems at all. Plus, of course, they were designed to get wet. I pick the leather variety so I can wear them to work--leather is a bit dressier than plastic, right? The only weakness in these shoes is that the little pulls on the back strap and tongue can pull out. This happened on one of my old pairs and on this pair I just purchased. I had a shoe repair guy fix it for $5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and Sturdy The Newport worked out exactly as anticipated. It is well constructed and durable. Because of the construction and durability it wasn't surprising that initially they seemed a bit stiff and heavy. The heel strap did rub a bit. However, after a few wearings, my feet adjusted. The construction was robust and stabile enough for light dry hiking. It had good grip on dry rock. I was careful to select a size to allow use with and without socks. Overall, this is a great product - worth the additional expense. I looked at other less expensive sandals. None were constructed as well as or looked as attractive as the Newports.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I wanted to love you. I loved this shoe. I really did. I got the female version but they ended up not being wide enough and my pinky toe would slip out the side so I bought the mens. Still had the same issue but not as often, just a mild annoyance. However, I had these shoes for about a month (I purchased them for relief from hiking boots while backpacking Alaska) and didn't wear them everyday and where the shoe meets the heal (where it says Keen) started just unraveling. My friend that I went with had the same shoes and they did the SAME thing. So I exchanged them for the same shoe, same problem. I ended up just returning them when I got home. I felt that if I'm spending that much on shoes, they should hold up better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sandal I've ever had! This is my second pair of Newport sandals. I used my previous pair for approximately four years before they began to break down and the tread wore out. It's true these sandals are a little heavy, but they truly protect your feet, have amazing traction and wear like iron. My only (minor) complaint is that small stones sometimes sneak inside and make their way to the toe-box and aren't easily shaken out. It's a small price to pay for the toe protection that's saved my bacon on a number of occasions. Overall great sandals - I'm positive I'll be searching my third pair in another 4-5 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable...but that one 'stinking' issue I have foot problems, but smelly feet is not generally one of them. This model is leather-trimmed and very comfortable. I got them about 8 months ago and wore them almost continuously while in Tucson (without socks) and began to notice a smell emanating from the shoe when I took them off. They're open enough to allow air to circulate, so I was surprised that this was an issue. I purchased a product on Amazon that you spray into the shoe, but it didn't remove the smell; it just covered it up somewhat. I'll continue to wear them but have resorted to wearing them every other day in order to allow them to dry completely between wearing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Comfort and Long Lasting This is my 3rd pair of Keen Newports over 4-5 years. I wear them year around, but not outdoors in winter snows. For air travel they are great for getting through TSA inspections and in flight comfort. In warm destinations they can then serve as a general purpose daily shoe around town, on the beach and rural hiking. They drain well when wet, although it does take awhile for the leather to dry. When dried, the leather keeps its flexibility. When the last pair arrived a couple of months ago, the initial fit seemed tight. After a few days of indoor wear, the fit felt great. I like the boxy toe area for comfort. Arch support is good, but sometimes I will use my customized orthotics.

I have a pair of 5 yr old Keen Newports but recently the sandal squeaks whenever I walk.  I see no crack in the sole and have washed these sandals previously.  This started after a day at a sandy beach.  Any ideas how to eliminate the squeak?

These sandals are running a 1/2 size small. We suggest ordering a 1/2 size larger than your usual size.

Why is there a caution symbol on all of your sandals? It looks too goofy to wear. Let me know when you've redesigned them.

Asked by: raccoon
REI is not the manufacturer of Keen items. The symbol you are referring to is on Keen items with the Keen Protect feature. This means that while the item is a sandal, it does protect your toes and the sides of your feet.

What is the size conversion from men's to women's shoes?

Asked by: JanW
A US men's shoe is 2 sizes larger than a women's. A men's 7 is about equal to a women's 9. Men's standard width is equal to a women's wide.
