Awesome minimal shoes!

These are a great way to get into barefoot running. These are super minimalistic. I do find that the seam that sits right on my Achilles tendon to be a nuisance and the only reason I lowered these to 4 stars. If you're comparing these to other "minimal" shoes and you are truly interested in going minimal, this is your best bet. As the prices start to go up, they are adding more "features" which goes against the minimalist idea and the reason you are probably considering these. Remember to take it easy as you begin running in these. Going too hard and too fast will likely cause an injury. Slowly building up to longer distances with these will greatly improve your foot strength and form.

Great for casual walking
Phoenix

I have had 3 FiveFingers prior to this and loved all of them. I wore out all my others, so I got these for just casual walking around and doing errands. The outer soles on these are more durable than the others I have had. And I love the slip on/slip off nature of these as well. However, the one issue I have/had with these is that they run small. I normally wear 40s or 41s in the FiveFingers. The first pair of these that I ordered were a 40. They were sooo small. I returned them, and reordered the 41, and they are still tight on the full length and in the toes. I still recommend these, but if you order them, plan to either 1) try them out for size before purchasing, or 2) order 2 sizes larger than you normally would. I did not get the benefit of trying them out ahead of time in the store because they were not available in the store.

Best Vibrams yet!

I use these for everything. I refuse to wear anything else to work out in, doing anything from running and biking to weights. They just can't be beat. I also wear them to class, to church, would wear to work if they would let me. (I work in a warehouse and am required to wear boots.) Simply put, these are the best things I have ever put on my feet. That said, definitely try them on in store if you can, especially if these are your first Fivefingers. They fit very similar to most VFFs, But since they are not adjustable at all it would be annoying to order them and have them be just a little too big or too small.

Great shoe!

These are some of the most comfortable VFFs I own. No velcro or laces makes for an extremely comfortable fit. I have extra wide feet and this model does't seem to bother me at all. Super light weight, comfortable, easy to put on/take off, and they breathe well. Only strange thing I noticed is that my foot doesn't stay planted to the bottom of the shoe; my heel will float a little while I walk. Doesn't seem to cause any rubbing/blister issues but I do notice it. I'm still extra happy with these shoes and wear them all the time. Definitely worth the purchase!

Great pair of kicks

When vibram started trending towards the shoe and away from minimalist design I was worried and tried to secure a few extra pairs of the sprint model(no longer available) the el-x is true to minimalist style and more durable than it looks. I've worn them commuting to work for a month noe on my biker and they work great. I run one mile a week in them for foot strength and have taken them to the river yakin and they do a pretty good job of keeping most stuff out. They stay on better than other reviews had mentioned but you really need to try them on first to make sure you got the right size. Bottom line if your looking at this review I'm sure your pretty serious about these shoes. So don't think any more and order a pair from rei.

Most "barefoot" feel

As soon as the photos of the EL-X were released I was intrigued, they looked to feature a minimal upper with a very flexible sole. When I was finally able to get a pair I wasn't disappointed. They pack well and the ground feel is great. The only con I can find is that if your foot isn't exactly the right size you may have trouble with them coming off the heel.

Ultimate minimalist shoe

This shoe is great for wearing around the house, going on walks, or my personal favorite: running in grass. Once you get the biomechanics of running on the balls of your feet rather than striking the heel, these shoes and other Vibrams can be so rewarding. These shoes are meant to be worn bare foot, in my opinion, as they don't have any sort of lacing system and are meant to stretch to the size of your foot. They start of a little tight, but break in easily. The problem with wearing Vibrams barefoot, as you may know, is that they tend to smell after your bare feet begin sweating into them. You can research possible methods such as vinegar baths to get rid of the smell temporarily, but basically your feet will smell after each use. If you're looking for the ultimate minimalist shoe, this is it. I own a part of the KMD Sport LS Vibrams, which have a more rugged sole for light hiking trails or pavement, which also pairs well with socks that can hold back the stench that can build in these shoes.

My Favorite FiveFingers so far.

I bought my first pair of FiveFingers back in 2007 when the only pair they made were the Classics. Now about 16 pairs of FiveFingers later, these are my favorites. The fit is spectacular and they are extremely light weight.

These shoes are the bomb. Light and easy, not problems slipping them on, easy on and off. Not much cushion for hiking but a general comfort to wear for daily use. I love them. You forget your wearing them they are so light and easy. Only problem I find is that tend to be a bit stinky when you take them off, but set them out of the way and get them when you need them. This funk sometimes sticks to your feet, so a good wipe down couldn't hurt. Small price to pay for such comfortable shoes t if you ask me.
