Goodbye Altra
After trying on 8 pairs of current gen and the one just before, and none fitting, and this pair is not tall enough the tongue is not one piece, and it very thick right were it is attached. I could try and have a show repair place redo it, why should I have too. After 11 years of the same shoe brand, it's time to break from Altra as they are no longer worth my time, and I tried over the past 2 months to find one that fit. Finding shoes is stressful
Decent fit and comfort, fair quality
I like the comfort and fit of the shoe. What I don’t like is the quality of the shoe, which seems fair at best. Within 3-4 months the sole began do delaminate like others have said. After about 6 months the stitching began to separate around the mouth of the shoe.
Favorite Gym Shoe
This shoe is my favorite shoe to wear, love the low profile sole, the lightweight of the shoe, and the wide toe box. Most comfortable shoes to do leg day in. Only thing I wish there was more colorways like some two tone such as black/white or gray/whiye.
Not a fan of the XT3’s foam
I was a big fan of the Solstice 2’s for everyday wear and gym workouts. I loved them so much that I stockpiled an extra pair. In the meantime, I bought a pair of the Solstice XT3’s and was put off by the quicker reacting foam. Whereas the 2’s allowed me to feel the ground, which helped with walking and gym workouts, the XT3’s feel springy and more like a running shoe, which makes them less stable in the weight room. If I wanted to wear running shoes, I would wear my Escalante 4’s (which I am about to stockpile). Otherwise, they are well-made and don’t fall apart. The upper does seem to stretch some, though.
The shoes hurt across the top of your foot
These shoes were so tight across the top of my feet. My only conclusion is that they are just made wrong. Other reviews have said the same about the fit. I'm a size 10 in just about every brand, I have a size 10 in the Superior 7s, but I could not wear these for a whole day. I loosened the laces to the point the shoes would fall off my feet and tried a few more days, but nope. I really like Altra shoes, they have the best looking and functional zero drop wide tore box shoes, even if the stack height is high for my liking. I was going to order a different Altra shoe but the reviews said the same about the fit,
Color not a depicted on website
My complaint is more with REI than the shoes These look black on their website........they are not black they are medium grey. Hard to believe that a company with and annual revenue of 3.54 BILLION, can't hire a product photographer that knows what they are doing. This is a garbage iPhone photo that shows the real colors
Poor Quality!
This product was very disappointing from Altra. The sole of my shoe ripped apart from the shoe within just a few months of light use. I’ve read other reviews with similar issues so this is obviously not an isolated issue. In addition, the tongue does not stay in place . I’m hoping version 4 is better as version 2 was fairly solid. It does make me wonder if these shoes are even tested after being made and before being sold.
Disappointing evolution of a great cross trainer
I’ve worn the original and XT 2 for as long as they’ve been available for my work as a DPT and strength coach and as my preferred training shoe. I’ve recommended the previous versions to countless patients and clients as the best choice. The new version is a major disappointment. It is significantly less wide in the toe box to the point where I can’t tolerate wearing them all day and find myself wearing my worn out older versions as much as I can. The tongue will not stay in place and the shoes feel stiffer and heavier than previous versions. I can no longer recommend these to my clients and we’re now actively searching for other cross trainer options. It’s too bad as the previous versions were great.
Way too tight
I'll start by saying I love Altra shoes. I have their hiking shoes and I'm looking for a new pair of Altra gym shoes. What others are saying about this specific XT3 model are true. The area around the base of the tongue is way too tight to the point it is painful even before the shoes are laced up. If they added slightly more space in that spot, these shoes would be perfect (hopefully will be done in an XT4 model soon. . . ?). Unfortunately, I had to return and will be switching out with the Escalante 4 model, which looks close enough to what I need.
Great gym shoe!
I use this primarily for cross training and gym work (HIIT, heavy lifting, strength, etc) and they are way better than Metcons.
