functional love

I bought this backpack because I moved downtown and walk ~1 mile to work. I needed something to hold my high heels, lunch, laptop, extra sweater/fleece, wallet, makeup, etc. I love this backpack and have received numerous compliments on it. It is very lightweight so it helps me cruise down the sidewalks! I also wanted a backpack that I can use for hiking. I love that i can hook-up a Camelbak on the inside or there is plenty of space for my Kleen Kanteen (never leave home without it). I also have had some zipper snagging issues but it is usually bc I am rushing. The backpack has a warranty anyways ;) I 100% recommend this bag. It looks cool and the compartments are great!

Liked it so much I bought another one.

I originally had this pack for a couple of years but in the smaller 20L size. But sadly on my recent hiking trip in Washington State it was stolen out of my rental car! I guess somebody else liked it as much as I did. I did some shopping around and was really excited when I came across my old favorite pack again but in a bigger size. I ordered it, it arrived when they said it would, and it is just as they described. It's lightweight, it's comfortable, it has tons of pockets and storage space, and it's perfect for my day hikes or camping trips. The only issue that I have with it is that the zipper snags which is the same, and only, issue that I had with my last pack as well.

Good Lightweight Day Pack for Traveling

I wanted a lightweight day pack that I could use as a carry-on for plane travel and for local day hikes and excursions for 19 days in Maui, HI, and that would be easily storable in my regular luggage if necessary. This soft-sided day pack was able to store a laptop, several magazines, two light jackets, camera bag, beach towel, and various incidentals (keys, sunscreen, cell phone, several pair of glasses, notepad, pencil, etc.) for both my wife and I. It also had pockets to hold two bottles of water. I used it for all our excursions (shopping, tours, day hikes, sunset cruises, beach outings, etc.) on Maui and even took it to Lanai for the day. Only negative was that once fully loaded, the zippers would sometimes catch on the zipper fly, but only because I was too hasty in zipping up.

Zippers make the bag

I have been searching over 2 years for the perfect replacement for my original NF Recon backpack that recently tore. The Angstrom 28 is very sleek and stylish, but it lacked some testing for the zipper functionality. Everytime I use the zipper it gets stuck on the very thin nylon material of the bag and I need to unzip it and pull the fabric straight and rezip. Seems trivial in a review, but just think about the annoyance of constantly needing to straighten every 6-10 inches of fabric in order to zip your bag up without it catching on the bag material. I've lost valuable seconds of my life repeatedly throughout the day trying to zip this thing up, and now I have nightmares about zippers. Don't buy this bag.

Ingenious Design and Impeccable Utility

I use my North Face Angstrom pack for commmuting, day hikes, and ultralight backpacking purposes. Its functions are extremely versatile and intuitive, and its strap system can be adjusted easily--the hip straps also fit easily inside the folds of the lower back section to prevent them from flapping around when not in use. The rain flap is great and so is the water-resistant light fabric from which the rest of the pack is made. The only problem I would say is that unlike a few other low-profile packs of its grade, the Angstrom lacks a developed ventilation system that allows for air flow between the back and padding on the pack. This does not pose too much of a problem for me, because I like the functionality of having the pack being closer to my body rather than pulling away from it. But if you are a heavy sweater or desire a more ventilated pack, I would suggest looking elsewhere to find something more along the lines of a suspension system. But altogether, a really great product.

Versatile bag

This bag is great and would get 5 stars if they didn't tweak the design. It has just the right amount of compartments and clips and bungies. If it doesn't fit in this bag you have too much stuff. Special treats include side pockets, hip belt pockets, hydration ready, rain cover and rare pockets to tuck away hip belt when not in use. My first one lasted around 10 years and well used. Comfortable and not saggy. The only thing not great is they moved the rain fly pocket to the bottom and went with 1 top clip instead of two. Great size for light loads and overnight.

Great Bag! Rain Cover Almost Useless.

The bag itself is great! Lightweight, useable capacity, good looking. They advertise it as having an "integrated rain cover" which is true that it fits in a very nicely designed pocket on the bottom of the bag, but unless you have the bag laying down on something, the rain fly doesn't stay on the bag. You cannot wear the bag and have the rain fly on because there is not lip at the top of the bag for the rain fly to catch onto, it just slides right off. Nice thought to add it, but it is essentially useless if you are wearing the bag. Great bag nonetheless!

Been using it daily for 3 years including 3 continents!

I have used this backpack DAILY for my commute by bike in the city, and have also taken it to Thailand/Cambodia (fit what I needed for 3 weeks!), as well as day hikes in Shenendoah. I really love this bag because of its capacity, conveniently designed pockets. I would say it is a very durable bag since there are no rips or tears in it after these years, however the top opening where a camelbak straw would thread through is wearing thin, and the bag itself has gotten super dirty because of its light tan shade. I don't know why NF wouldn't have just made the whole bag a darker color (now I see that they don't make my color combo anymore but do offer it in all-black, which I would recommend). The only two downsides to this bag are: zipper snagging and that the rain fly will not stay on the pack snugly if I am wearing the backpack and biking.

A traveler's best friend :)

The bag itself is water repellent and it doesn't mind the snow as well, but if you wanna brave the weather for prolonged periods of time then better put the rain cover on. The bag also has Ripstop nylon so as far as durability, I think it'll never break down on its own unless you're Tarzan. I've had the black one as a gift for 6 mos and it's still looking mint.

Perfect everday pack/light weight hiking pack. Not a bookbag

Great bag for amost anything. I wouldn't use it for school/books, but that's not what it was made for. The hidden rainfly is a true lifesaver, too! I didn't even know it had one for 6mos! My dog chewed up my old one that I've had for 6 years, otherwise this bag would have lasted forever!
