Blindingly Bright
Originally bought it to be seen during the day, which in AZ is pretty tough in the bright glare. But the shorter days have forced me to use it at dusk and early evening. I have literally been flashed by oncoming traffic about a dozen times because this thing is so bright! I'm not out to enrage drivers, and I've even made sure it was angled downwards, but still almost too bright for oncoming traffic. I consider that better than an apology bedside in the hospital for not seeing me. NO ONE WILL MISS SEEING THIS LIGHT DAY OR NIGHT! Works great at night; seems equal to my HID lights on the car. Best light I can imagine for the money.
Nite Rider Lumina 650
The Lumina Series I have the Lumina 650 it is even smaller/lighter than the MiNewt Series. This new series has a much better retention system that will allow it to be firmly attached to the bar, it also comes with a mount for your helmet. It has a great wide light pattern allowing you to see on the darkest of roads/trails and nice daylight flashing mode. With even more light output (650 Lumens) you can't go wrong.
Friggin' Laser on Your Head
My old MiNewt started to fail and I figured it was time for a replacement. I didn't feel like paying $500 for a crazy lighting system, but needed something for my hour commute, hours-long training rides, and the occasional night-time CX race. Enter the Lumina 650. At less than half the weight, more than twice the brightness, and roughly twice the rated battery life of my old MiNewt 300, this light is a winner. This thing on medium is powerful enough to light a two-lane road and give you plenty of time to avoid obstacles. High is just silly. It mounts very securely to your handlebars, but comes-off easily when you need it. The power button glows blue when on and turns red when charging or the battery gets low. The light modes are easy to change, with a solid click between settings. When you get to work, you can plug it into any micro-USB cable to recharge. And unlike the super high-powered lighting systems, when you get a flat, it's dark out, and the temps are freezing, you can clamp the Lumina between your teeth to help change that tire. Good job, NiteRider!
Great for commuting
I've been using this for about a week now, very glad I got it. I had done some research, and this seemed to be the best-made for the money. After someone not seeing my $20 light and almost taking a left turn into me, I decided it was worth at least the insurance to upgrade. The brightest setting is probably overkill for road commuting, I usually use the lowest or middle setting, but I feel that having a longer battery life at these settings makes it worth getting the 650 over the 350. The mount has worked well even over curb drops and rooty bike trails on my commute. Seems to be water-resistant enough, and being able to charge with any USB cable is handy. The lock-out mode is nice when I stow the light in my pack for riding in daylight so it doesn't accidentally turn on.
Robust, bright, reliable, great light
I'm a year round daily bike commuter in Seattle. In the daytime I love this light because it's so bright they can't just not see you. At night it lights up the roads so I can see all the potholes, trolly tracks and other challenges the urban cyclist faces. I've ridden with it in some of our downpours and it's thoroughly reliable in the rain. Putting it on my helmet means I can shine it around and "flash" those drivers who are merging from other roads and who just might not notice me. I've used Niterider lights for the last 6 years and they keep getting better, and this one is the best!
Great headlight
I bought this light for commuting at night. I already had a light on my bike, but wanted to add one to mount on my helmet. This light came with a helmet mount in addition to a handle bar mount. I like the USB charging. I can plug it into my USB prot at work and the light is chagred and ready for my commute home. Battery life is good. Beam is very bright and really lights up the bike trail. With the helmet mount it shines where ever I look which is great for seeing all the wildlife that comes out at night on the trail. Very happy with this light.
Awesome Light
I have owned numerous bike lights in the past and this one blows away the others. No bulky, heavy battery to carry, it's USB rechargeable (no more batteries to buy) and the light output is amazing. I use it for early morning rides in the winter and it really illuminates the road ahead even on the low setting. The high setting is amazing. I like the flash mode during twilight to alert cars of my presence and you can see the reflection of the light on reflective signs a quarter mile away. I'm buying another one for my son's bike.
Great light, poor product.
This is the best light I've owned. That being said be careful about the mount. This light is held on by two 1 mm prongs and after constant charging they wear out quick. I was in the middle of a ride and looked down to find my light missing. I rode about 20 miles trying to find it but couldn't find it. It had fallen off the day before too and I planned on returning the light over the weekend. I took the broken mount back to REI but I was told I was tough out of luck without out the light. Again great light but pay attention to those prongs or you're out big on money.
Intensely Bright!!!
I enjoy bicycling after dark. With this light the vehicles have been giving me much more space than before.Opted for the 650 because of the runtime at lower than its maximum settings. I use the flash mode since it draws the most attention. With normal visibility I can see flashes off reflective materials close to a half mile away(depending on ambient light).
Ride n Shine
REI Associate asked do you want to see or be seen. I want to see and this light defiantly does the job. Can't believe how bright it is for as small as it is. It slides off really easy so that you don't have to worry about it being stolen when locking up your bike. BUY IT! ! !
