Quick and easy
I don’t know why there are some bad reviews, I bought two of these and they were great. Very quick and easy to use. The lock works great. I am always on rough roads along with off-road trails, and this mount has never failed me. The bike is secure with no movement. I would highly recommend this product.
Opps; not workin'
I purchased this thru-axle by Rocky Mounts to go with my new Rocky Mount Pitchfork rack because I have a new thru-axle bike. The material and build quality of both these pieces are fantastic. The Pitchfork is great and would work for a normal forked bike. However, the thru-axle piece just does not work as advertised. When placed on the Pitchfork and tightened, it is still loose. You can move the thru-axle piece backward and forward, no matter how tight you make the Pitchfork skewer. And, you can only tighten it so much. Too darn bad. Then, with the bike on it, the bike will move forward and backward even with the tire strap tightened. If someone has an idea of how to get this to be tight enough so my bike is not a rocking horse, let me know. They suggest adding a second tire strap that, of course is NOT included. But, I don't believe that will prevent the thru-axle from moving, making the bike on the rack unstable. Back it all goes. Thanks REI for the great service.
Not reliable for locking your bike
It "locks" your skewer by clamping down on it hard. Even with the clamp really tight, tighter than I'd like for opening and closing it, I could still unscrew the skewer. Once it was super, super tight I was personally unable to unscrew the skewer but who knows if someone stronger than me came along and tried to steal my bike. It is more convenient than a regular adapter though as you can just leave it sitting on top of your rack and through your bike in it as long as you aren't worried about locking it. It felt solid otherwise. Will keep it but will also get a locking skewer for peace of mind.
Wrong shims inside box
The concept is nice and I'm looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately the shims that shipped with the adapter are labeled as being for a 12mm axle. They're light blue instead of black, and aren't even long enough to fit on this adapter. These shims look like they belong on another product.
Great product but shims are useless
Seems like they have the wrong shims in the box for 15
Great hardware, but shims seems wrong
The hardware is tough and this feels well built but the blue 12mm shims (no 15mm shims aren't included, btw) don't fit well securely or snug in the mount. Only one half of the shim set will fit with my 12mm through axle. Feels like you're setting it up wrong but the mistake is the manufacturer.
Exactly What I Needed
We have two all-mountain bikes with 110MM forks and 15MM axles. The kit comes with keys and shims for 12mm axles. The two holes on the side you see in the picture allow for a more secure setup that doesn't allow for the adapter to shift back and forth. I would recommend this product if you need the 110mm fork setup as the other brands are meant for 100mm.
Good for 15 mm through axle
needs a second way to lock it to rack or can be removed, I have a locking skewer already so it works great
Super simple and solid
Was looking for a quick fix, last minute way to haul my 29". I was hesitant because I was driving 10 hours with bike on roof rack configuration (Rocky Mounts base rail). But no need to worry as this simple conversion (from standard spindle to 29" shaft) was rock solid, even over 10 miles of washboard back roads.
Be sure to check your brake rotors
You really need to be careful on which base rack you mount this too. For some, I think it would work fine but for my rack it could easily bang the brake rotors into the edge of the rack.
