Great Rain Fly
I bought this to use with my eno double nest because it is a large size fly. I have used this for 4 days straight in heavy rain with only a few hours of no rain. I stayed dry the whole time. I have used this in an unexpected hail storm on tablerock mtn in sc and it held up fine, it wasn't heavy ice but enough to have me worried. Overall I have used this over 10 times and have no complaints. You can adjust the slope to accomadate your needs and it is easy to set up. it does take up a little space in my pack but not much more than my hammock does. I am planning on putting a scotch guard type coating on it soon just to prolong the dwr coating.
Nice big cover
Full sized hex cover supplies great shelter. I bought to use with my ENO hammock and the first couple of days use went well. If you go with a piecemeal hammock setup, be aware that in this instance my fly is longer than the hammock. Thus, I can't tie off to the hammock ridgeline to keep the fly close. For Fall/Winter use, I'll probably drop the sides to make an almost A-frame shelter, though I'm going to continue to experiment throughout the summer. Bottom line...just the right amount of tie-outs, comes with attached lines that fit inside their own pockets for storage, and fairly light for it's size. Wished it came with a sack, but no real biggie since it's waterproof....
great spacious upgrade
I have camped exclusively with my eno hammock for the past 2 years, and after one particularly rainy summer, decided that I needed to size up my tarp for more living space. This tarp is perfect - I can pitch one side down in a fairly tight A line for privacy, and stake the other side out on 2 tarp poles and have ample space to cook, put on my boots, etc., without crouching in and huddling next to my hammock. Best of all, the tarp doesn't take up any more room in my pack than the pro fly I had been using. I highly recommend this tarp for folks whop want some living space out of the rain.
high and dry
The Hennessy Hammock rainfly provided great coverage for my EMO hammock. I slept through three different Thunderstorms and did not have any moisture in the hammock due to the excellent rainfly. It is lightweight and easy to put up and take down. It packs well and takes up little space in a backpack.
Great surprise
My wife and I bought 2 of these for our first backpacking trip. Didn't know what we were doing but we're looking for a large tarp to hold out bad weather. Our second night we were hit with a massive storm. They were incredible!! Rain, wind and we stayed dry. We had other tarps tied out like a front porch. The top of the porch area we had to dump water out many times during the storm but we found a new rain catching system as well. As we've change gear out and have looked at many tarps more expensive. We have decided we can't do better than stay with the tarp we have and has proven itself many times over. Would like places in the corners to be able to use trekking poles to hole up the tarp if needed.
Great BIG heavy duty tarp
I have used this nearly dozen times over the past year. So not really a longterm test. I can say that it is big, though considered heavy. I think the weight is a worthy trade off when you consider price, durability, and coverage. While other materiels may be lighter. This stays tight in the wind and rain as polyester stretches less than other fabrics, does not "mist" through, and is more UV stable. It covers a very large area. In a porch configuration it provides ample space and you can run it all the way to the ground when needed. Sometimes my wife and I will hang close together and share this tarp. The price speaks for itself. The only caveats I have are related to the REI description: -It is NOT coyote brown. It is more of a dark olive. (Fine with me.) -It is NOT asymmetrical. It is a symmetrical hex tarp. I had to contact Hennessey before purchasing to verify, as an asymmetrical would not work for me.
Must Have
I have owned my Hennessy hammock for about five years. I have used the hex fly and have never regretted it. If you hang your hammock high enough you can store all your gear underneath and still have room to cook and relax underneath the fly and while staying nice and dry. Sometimes i dont even bring the hammock and only use the fly. Buy it and you wont regret it!
heavy duty weather protection
I've had this tarp for several years. it fits over my hammock, makes a great lean-to, is big enough to be the main camp cover. I've had this thing out in gale force summer storms, and deep winters with a fire underneath.... smells like mildew and ash but has survived more outings than I would have guessed and it still functions like new. Seams and stitching are still tight, and not one hole to be found... One note. It's not light. Won't fit inside the snakeskins I bought. That's OK. If you need ultralight, look elsewhere... everyone else will be pleased.
Nice and Big!
I wasn't expecting this Hex Fly to be as big as it is. I love it! It provides plenty of shade from the sun and keeps me and my belongings dry in the rain and morning dew.
Great, reasonably priced tarp... not Coyote.
This is the third of these I have purchased. Now all three of us will use these with our hammocks. While we have not used "#3" yet...I have inspected it and am not disappointed. While there are lighter tarps, it is a good value for the money. Providing generous coverage, UV resistance, low stretch, and a fair amount of durability. However, these are NOT COYOTE. Rather they are DARK OLIVE. Which makes no difference to me.
