The Remixed Remix is Great!
I had the old Remix (the knife pictured above as of 10/24/11). All of the comments and bad ratings are due to the poor closure system Gerber use to have for this knife. It was very hard to close and open! I loved my old Remix, I just got use to the funky open/close system. It seems as if Gerber has listened to its customers and has redesigned. It now sports the open/closure system of the Paraframe knife. With this change, this is one of my favorite knives of all time. I bought mine in an REI store and was shocked to the design change. I'm really happy they have redesigned it!
Great little knife
My Spyderco camping knife had worn out (it wouldn't securely lock the blade any more after almost 20 years) so I needed a new knife for adventures. I'd owned Gerber knives before and had always been happy with them so I decided that I'd try them again. Honestly, I liked the way this looked and that's what got me to buy if — but in actually using it, I've really grown to love it. The locking mechanism is solid, the knife is very comfortable in my hand and easy to open/close single handed and the blade is very sharp and a perfect length. I also like the light weight and the clip, very convenient for carrying.
Great all around every day carry pocket knife
It's in my pocket everyday, I use it everyday. While not perfect, considering the price point it's a good decent quality versatile knife. Although a little heavy I use it as a Climbing Belay knife attaching it to my harness with a carabiner through the hole. The serrated portion of the knife blade is good for cutting through webbing, slings, and rope. I've used my share of more specialized knives, but this one is very versatile and will get the job done also. One of the best general use knives I've owned: hiking, camping, climbing. Although it's too small for bushcrafting you might be able to squeeze a little bushcraft out of it also. I repeat, it's not perfect but if I had to chose one for my pocket this is it.
Can’t stop carrying this.
Very clean knife and feel. I like having the ability to put my index finger through the hole while “sawing”. Easy to clip to carabiner and add to pack. I would clip this onto my fishing gear/or vest. Hard to open with just your thumb, also doesn’t flick out. I didn’t buy it with the intention of doing those actions.
stiff out of the box.
I purchased this knife off of Amazon to replace what I thought was my missing Gerber Bear Grylls knife. I've owned Gerber products since the mid nineties and my multi tool still sharp blade 30 years later. I rarely use the blade though. Anyway on the remix knife it is stiff to open and sharp out of the box. with some remmington oil and myself constantly opening and closing with one hand I have to say this knife works amazing. Cuts like it should so far. I do sharpen it after a few cuts. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it and it does what it should for the 35 beans I paid for it.
Excellent blade at such an affordable price!!!!
My friend recommended this blade to me so I could take it with me hiking. I'm shocked that its super sharp and sturdy considering it doesn't cost a lot. I keep in right in my pocket in my Camelbak. Thank god I haven't had to use it for my safety, but I like knowing I can protect myself if need be. I pulled this out and used it to open things when I was camping. It cuts through plastic and tarp and rope effortlessly.
Solid Knife
I've had this knife for 5 months and I really like it. The open eye for your pointer finger provides a very stable grip, the blade is sharp and hasn't dulled on me, and it's easy to clean due to its open design. I would recommend the serrated model with a belt clip. The clip works well even on hikes. The only negative thing about this knife is its harder to open than I would like. Overall its a solid knife with a great design.
Great knife!
I bought this knife while in Alaska before a 2 week backpacking trip with my boyfriend. It held up through everything we did and he loved that the 'finger' hole can also be used to clip it to a carabiner. It has been 2 years and he still keeps it on his belt every day. The thing has been so used I'm actually surprised it has held on this long. Great knife, highly recommend if you're condsidering it.
Decent for the price
I needed a small knife with serrations to carry around while camping, climbing ETC that was cheap. Knife blade was about as sharp as you'd expect for a $30 knife, no complaint there. Blade opens decently easily (one hand usable), but not flickable. Finger hole isn't for me after using it, the hold is akward for my hand size/grip style. I'm docking a star because the knife had a few little spots of rust appear on the blade after maybe a month of use.
Excellent and innovative knife
I've had (and lost) two of this knife in the past couple years. I absolutely love the large hole that you can put a finger through for good grip. I also love the Tonto style blade. Construction is solid and sound. The blade hold an edge very well; good quality steel. I highly recommend.
