Worked even in the tropics

I tried this out on a trip to the South Pacific. It held up against mosquitoes and biting flies in the forests of Vanuatu and Samoa as well as a DEET spray, but without the plastic-eating and inevitable numb lips that come from accidentally getting DEET where it shouldn't be. My only complaint about this is that the 0.5 oz. size is nonrefillable and too small. For a reasonable trip, sharing with my wife, we ran out of it after only a few days of sparing use. Granted, that was in the tropics, but I don't think this tiny bottle would last any longer in Yosemite or Alaska. This size is good for lightweight contingency planning or just proving to yourself that toxic DEET sprays are unnecessary. But for a longer trip, go bigger.

Effective and lacks unpleasant scent

Picaridin 20% seems pretty effective in repelling mosquitoes in heavily infested areas. I had tried Natrapel 20% picaridin, but its heavy perfume scent repelled me. This Sawyer 20% picaridin product has only a faint smell, so I rate it highly superior to the Natrapel products. This 0.5 oz. container fits almost anywhere, but the tiny spray nozzel is difficult to keep aimed in the right direction. I'll be looking for a larger size of the Sawyer 20% picaridin next.

Sawyer Premium Picaridin Insect Repellent Review

I tried this product for the first time while in Yosemite. The mosquitos. were swarming heavily. Did not get one bite nor any landing on me. This product does not leave an oily smelly residue. Never using DEET again. Wish I knew about it sooner.

Works as well as deet and smells better

I liked this product a lot and would certainly buy it again. We tested its effectiveness: I wore deet and my husband wore picaridin and neither of us got bites. (The previous night we'd hadn't used bug spray and got covered in bites; hubby getting more than I.) I loved the 0.5 oz convenient spray. So easy to carry in purse or pocket and think the amount would last fine for two people on a two week vacation.

I like it better than DEET

I've used picaridin a few times, and found it as effective as DEET, and nicer to use: Smells better (very little scent), feels better (not greasy) and won't harm plastics. My only complaint about this particular product is the the spray comes out in a little puff that is hard to aim. The bottle is small, but that's OK on a backpacking trip where weight is an issue.

Tremendously effective

I used this repellent on a two-day Inca Trail/Machu Picchu hike, which included one night of camping. I did not get a single bite in any spots where I applied this spray (I got a couple on a spot on my back where I forgot to spray). Others on my hike tried natural sprays and got eaten alive within minutes. All-in-all, I was extremely happy with this repellent.

Kapos mosquitos away

I was belaying near a marshy area and started getting eaten up by mosquitoes, as soon as we took a break I put on some picaridin. The mosquitos stopped bothering me and I was able to concentrate on belaying. I always keep this small container in my pack now

kept the sketers away

Used the Picaridin while on a cruse in Mexico. It was a nice compact size for traveling. Other people were paying a $1 to get sprayed with deet. We used the Picaridin and it did a nice job in keeping the Mexican mosquitoes away.

No odor, easy to carry, and effective.

It goes on dry with no odor. Does not irritate skin. I have used it on hiking days where there are dense tics and other got tics, not me. It's small, light and easy to carry. Container does not leak. Also keeps flys away--they come up and fly away it seems. Tips on application: All exposed areas but make sure to apply behind ears, neck, and behind knees. Areas tics look to first. I don't hike or walk in brush without it. Excellent reasonable cost protection.
