Best Use Kayaking
Weight 11 pounds
Rated 4 out of 5 by from no complaints after first use Installed with no problems, after loading kayak had to adjust left/right location of front carriers but that was expected. I also purchased the "water slide pad" to protect my hatchback. The pad was shorter than I expected but just barely long enough. I couldn't attach it to the rack as in the instructions but closed it into my hatch back. I was able to load and unload my kayak by myself. The roller and the slide pads all seem to function well. I've only used it once now but so far so good.

I have a 2012 Nissan Xterra and 2 kayaks (27" wide and 12' long). I currently have 50" thule load bars. Can I mount 2 roll model racks on these bars or do I need to get longer bars? Can 2 roll model systems be mounted on my truck side by side?

Asked by: Patti67
In order to carry 2 kayaks on the roof in a horizontal orientation a 50 inch bar will not be long enough. A 50 inch bar can carry 2 kayaks in a vertical orientation on J-cradle style carriers. In order to carry 2 kayaks with the Roll Model Kayak Carrier on your vehicle, you will need to get 58" load bars. Of course this will make them stick out further from the sides of your vehicle. Finally, you must make sure that the weight on your vehicle's roof does not exceed 165 lbs with all the hardware and kayaks included.

Can you get extensions for the rollers to position them farther to the "stern" of the car so the bow of the kayak doesn't bang the rear door on a minivan. We have an Odyssey and there is a plastic window frame overhang that gets in the way.

There are no extension accessories for the rollers. You can purchase the Waterslide Boat Accessory from Thule to protect your car in case your boat touches your car.
