Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed I used the Nikwax combo wash / retreat kit to hopefully revive an REI Goretex rain jacket that had lost its water repellency. Wash seemed to work fine and had no issues there. Followed the directions to the letter on both the wash and the TX Direct treatment. Thought everything was fine until I wore the jacket in a light rainstorm in Yellowstone. After about an hour of being in and out of the rain I noticed that my shoulders were wet on the inside as were other areas. There was next to zero beading of water on the jacket and I was wet! Do not recommend this product at all. Perhaps I got a bad batch but am very displeased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it's supposed to do.... I purchased this item to refresh the waterproofing on a shell jacket and a recently purchased hybrid synthetic down jacket. This product worked perfectly and as advertised. I did have to wash the shell jacket twice in the DWR treatment in order to get the level of waterproofing that I desired. To be fair, the jacket had not been washed for some time so with frequent washes I'm sure that a single wash would be sufficient. After the wash I was able to field test the shell and synthetic down jackets in the rain and snow with no issues to report. This is a great product and I would recommend it to others. I will also try ReviveX in the future as a point of comparison.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't buy a new jacket In short: It will revive your rain jacket. The longer: Alas, my six year-old REI elements rain jacket (I think it's a hard shell) had failed. Walks home from the bus in a steady rain (15-20 min) had me soaked. Instead of buying a new jacket, I dropped the (by comparison) paltry $ for this treatment, followed the directions and now water beads up on my jacket just like when it was new. 20 minutes standing in a downpour at an unsheltered bus stop this morning waiting for the reliably late route 48, I was completely dry underneath. To use: I washed this and another jacket with the Tech Wash (3 capfuls in warm water, low water level, extra rinse cycle), immediately followed with the Tx.Direct (the whole bottle, warm water, low setting). Let it dry overnight on a rack. Done. Both, but the Tech Wash especially left the inside of the washer a bit smelly with some residue, so I ran it again empty with just some laundry detergent. Seemed to clean it right out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well Product was easy to use, assuming that you have a decent washer and dryer. I don't know what the environmental impact is from discharging the waste material to the wastewater treatment system or receiving waters. I applied it to rain jacket and rain pants, and shortly after experienced 4 days of rain on the Wonderland Trail around Mt Rainier, without and penetration of moisture.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Magic and WHY so hard to find instuctions This product is okay and the product is only a short term solution to waterproofing. I guess better than buying a new garment, but I wouldn't trust your key essential to this. The other thing that is bizarre is they do not post their instructions online. They only say "how to find the instructions" on the sticky label. Which came off long ago. So if you need to find the proper cap ratio for washing, then you have to call them! Waste of time. Just put the instructions on line!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well. The stuff worked. I'm not fully convinced that you have to use their cleaner, but I did it any way just to be safe. Not worth ruining expensive gear. I've used my clothing several times since I washed it in NikWax and it definitely repels the water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great product Washed my jacket for the first time in 7 years and then treated with the waterproof protection. Jacket is like the day purchased. VERY impressed with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Product used when washing waterproof jackets or pants. Does a really good job keeping the texture in the clothes.

The Tech wash instructions say to add 3 oz for a front load washer. How many capfuls is that?

Asked by: tinac1
The cap on the 300ml Tech Wash (which comes with the Hard-shell Outerwear Care Kit) will hold 50ml (1.6 ounces). 3 ounces of Tech Wash will effectively clean 2 garments per load.

I have an REI jacket that's "100% nylon with P.U. coating". It no longer repels rain whatsoever. Will this product work on it, would another Nikwax product work better, or be honest, do I need a new jacket? Thanks!

Asked by: RainedOn
If your rain jacket is not de-laminating, then it simply needs to be waterproofed again. Using the NikWax Tech wash to clean the jacket thoroughly is the first step and may rejuvenate some of the waterproofing. After that, you could use the Nikwax TX.Direct Spray-On Water-Repellent Treatment on the outside of the jacket for the best results.

I have two garments to reapply DWRs to. About how many washes can be performed with the T.X. Direct Wash-in that comes in this set? Will I be able to wash both or would it be best to buy a larger bottle of T.X. Direct Wash-in?

Asked by: Cookie
Depending on the type of washer, front load vs. top load, you can restore the DWR on two clean garments up to three times.

Is it OK to use both products at the same time? I had quite a bit of a waxy residue in the detergent dispenser of my font loading washing machine after I washed a Gore-Tex jacket.

Asked by: POGlamper
The Hard-shell Outerwear Cleaner and Waterproofing products must be used in separate washing cycles to be effective.
