Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs Truing and Tension I knew when I ordered these it would be a chance as pre-made wheels are always a risk. These are not put together well. The wheel was out of true, out of round, and the tension was light. I would not recommend to anyone as it would need frequent truing, and the risk of spoke breakage would be high. The Sun CR-18 is a quality rim, and this wheel's shabby construction undermines it's robustness. One could argue for the price you get what you pay for, but if the wheel requires that much work to be proper, why bother selling it? I expect more from REI.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Spend your money on something else. I bought this wheel for a Trek 7300(hybrid), to replace a worn out wheel. Thought, with a Deore MTB hub, it should be plenty tough and able to handle some communting and pulling 2 children (combined weight - 75lbs) in a kid trailer. The first ride, out I did about 25miles+, no problems there. Then I attach a trailer, and pull my children for about 5-6miles, now the wheel is so badly out of true, I did not abuse them or hit anything, stayed on perfectly flat asphalt rodes.Looking back, these wheels were properly not tensioned or assembled correctly[...] But to others looking at these wheels, save your money on something better, or use the money you save, and buy a truing stand and learn how repair these wheels.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly built Machine built wheels these days tend to be OK, but after reading the reviews on this one I thought I would check it before using it. Sure enough it was very poorly built. Credit to REI, I took it straight to the nearest store and they fixed it and after a few rides it still seems OK. However, I got it online to save time and instead I had to take it in and wait a couple of hours to get it fixed. Given the history this wheel has in reviews, I'm not sure why this has not been addressed by REI.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a great Wheel I agree with Erth's assessment of this wheel. Bought wheel trued and tensioned, within the first 6 miles a spoke broke. Took it back to REI, they replaced the spke and checked tension and true. this happened 3 consecutive days until the guys at the shop had enough of me and rebuilt the wheel with better spokes. Only one issue since was a spoke that came loose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reasonable quality low end wheel Purchased these wheels for an older bike restoration to be used as a backup, casual, vacation, travel bike, interest was inexpensive wheels that can take some abuse and these fit the bill. Had REI techs check the truing at time of purchase, they were ready to ride out of the store and have performed as well as I had hoped. Noticed that there is more flex in the rear wheel than I am used to and the smooth braking surface does not perform as well as higher end wheels when wet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprizing Value Needed a stronger and wider wheel for a rebuild of an older aluminum road bike to be able to handle occasional fire, gravel and dirt roads. After reading reviews, I was demanding with REI service to check the truing before purchase and then bring it back for truing after the first ride. The matching front wheel seems to be better out of the box but this wheel is a good value and I suspect will hold up well, just needs a little TLC up front. For the price, this wheel exceeded expectations, quiet, rolls easy and brakes well when dry. Note this wheel would NOT work well with 700x23 tires, running with 700x25, suspect 700x32 would be the maximum width. Minor issue, noticed that when the rim gets wet, because they are smooth, braking deteriorates more than I would have expected but I also suspect that as they get scuffed up from use they will work better when wet. If you are looking for a strong wheel and do not care about weight, this wheel is a good value, just stay on top of the truing and spoke tension during the break in period.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spokes break constantly Wheel worked great for the first 1000 miles, but has recently started throwing a spoke every 20 miles or so. Very frustrating.

My old hub has an Axle length of 141mm.  Its also a 9 speed (SHIMANO SORA REAR HUB FH3300 BIKE BICYCLE) would this wheel work for my bike?

Asked by: jimujcic
You must have measured the length of the axle. You need to measure the span of the locknuts, which will be either 126mm, 130mm or 135mm. In your case, they are most likely 130mm with 5.5mm (common) axle protruding on either side, for a total axle length of 141mm. You need a different hub!

I have a Trek 7.6fx.  It has a mountain hub, but a 700 cc rim.  Will this work as a replacement wheel?  Do you carry any other wheels that would work?  (Upgrade)

Asked by: Sundog74
This wheel could work. The dropout spacing for this wheel is 135mm. We would highly recommend measuring the dropout spacing on your bike before purchasing the wheel.

You may have an issue with hub compatibility with this wheel. Please contact your local bike shop for a replacement.
