Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite travel/cmaping pillow I've had this for about three months, and I LOVE this pillow. It rolls up into a medium/smallish tube, and self-inflates nicely. I've used it so far on a two-week camping/road trip and on several plane trips. I've definitely got back and neck issues, and was happy to find that this was just fine for me. I was afraid that I'd have to stop somewhere on my camping trip and pick up an extra pillow, but there was no need. It doesn't always get as full on its own as I'd like, so sometimes I blow an extra blast of air in there and then close it tightly. Overall though, this is excellently easy to operate, a nice small size, and comfortable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mostly comfortable Bought this to replace my cheap air pillow I bought from a sporting goods store. I was very excited to give the pillow a go. It packs small and inflates quick and was perfect for taking along on the plane and backpacking. Despite these benefits, I just couldn't get it to work for me sleeping in a tent. I found it didn't support my neck enough when on my back or side. I really need a wider pillow to pop my head up and also support my neck and this one unfortunately didn't cut it for me. My hiking partner slept well on it, so I really think it depends on sleeping style and how much support you need. I returned it and am trying out another one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it! I love this pillow. I've taken it on several long backpacking trips as well as car camping trips. The rest of my family have another type of memory foam compressible pillow which is more bulky and heavy, but I am very happy with this compact pillow and sleep very well with it. The shredded foam inside fluffs up and inflates and adjusts easily and never leaks. It tucks into my mummy hood nicely and doesn't slide around with the grippy ridges on the backside. I cover it with a fleece top for added softness and cushion. I roll it up and tuck it into the bottom of my sleeping bag stuff sack, so I don't even need the little stuff sack it came in, reducing even more weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable but not good for Backpacking! I love this pillow! It's so comfortable and although it does not look soft in the picture, it is! And it literally self-inflates. I would still put some air into yourself as the foam compresses from sleeping on it overnight. The only unfortunate thing with this pillow is that it does not pack well. Once you let all the air out, the foam is still bulky. It's great if you have a medium size purse to toss it in for a flight but not great if you are taking it backpacking. If only the bag it came in was a compression bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big things come in small sizes This pillow exceeded all of my expectations. The air valve is one that you'd find on a therma-rest. It is self-inflating, with insulation inside the air chamber which helps in colder weather. One of the best things that I noticed is that the bottom of the pillow has thin gel-like lines which keep it from sliding on slick surfaces. This pillow even comes with its own carrying case (mine is black). I have experimented with MANY different kinds of pillows... for the size, weight, features and money you cannot beat this one. It is advertised as a "travel pillow" but it is excellent for even the most rugged of outdoorsmen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it; son hates it I have had this pillow for at least three years and it works great for me. I have used it on weekend outings and at least three extended backpaking trips of over a week each. I also have a Thermorest compressible pillow, but I much prefer this inflatable. It packs much smaller and is as firm as you want when inflated. The Thermorest is very flat when unpacked. This last week my wife tried it for the first time on a four day trip and now she wants one of her own. My son has tried it and says it is useles. Just depends on how you sleep I guess.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lifesaver on long plane trips There is only one thing lacking on this pillow. Extend the fabric around the vent to make room for a small (brass or plastic) grommet so that you can retain the pillow with a carabiner or paracord. I travel over 200000 air miles a year and this would help me not to lose it when walking thru airports.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clevert alternative to the U-shaped blowups This pillow self-inflates, but you can speed things up by blowing into the valve. There's a filling inside that makes for a firm pillow but keeps it from collapsing into a small package. I put the pillow on my right shoulder and rest my right head on it. The dog-bone shape keeps my head cradled. There are sticky lines on the underside that keep it from shifting on my shoulder. Clever piece of engineering. Appears very durable.

What is the stuff size? I know it's small, but how small?

Asked by: Wamblee
The REI Self-Inflating Travel Pillow fits easily into a stuff sack measuring 10 X 6 inches. The size of the pillow when compressed depends in some measure on the person compressing it, but will be approximately grapefruit sized.

I'm looking for a self-inflating footrest. Has anyone used this to prop up their feet? I'm not a tall person and it's super uncomfortable when my feet don't touch the floor for hours.
