used for water pre-filter
This filter funnel was purchased to replace the one that my wife and I used on our 176-day thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. We pre-filtered our water to remove leaf litter and other debris before filtering. We also avoided catching small fish in our water bag as one friend managed to do. We think this kept our Sawyer filter cleaner. Overall the water on the AT was mostly clean so we would simply pre-filter the water and then cook our meals, eliminating the filtering step.
It's a funnel
Purchased this for pouring Coleman fuel from a large can to a portable bottle. What can I say, it's a funnel and it performs funnel tasks. It has a little chain on it to hang from the fuel bottle handle and it also has a screen in it, which filtered out impurities from being poured back into the can. This screen makes it impractical for food use though it it perfect for its intended purpose.
Please carry a metal version
This does exactly what it's meant to do, but I hated having to buy another plastic gadget. Coleman used to make metal ones, I'd love to see REI find a metal option for this.

This funnel is very useful. Strainer? Very good idea! Always use funnel with strainer to refill your appliances! I bought two. One of funnels I use for refilling flask.

Dang ol' sweet funnel man. A funnel to replace all others. It is yellow. Has a screen to filter particles. Don't think. Just buy it.
