I actually have 2 pair of the same shorts (bought at the same time) and had these for less than a year and wore them maybe once or twice a week and the cuffing at the legs are undone with the adhesive and frailing of the fabric exposed. Would not recommend these especially for the price you pay.

Hello there, thank you for your honest review of the Norvan Short 5". We understand how disappointing it is to experience wear at the cuffs after limited use, especially on both pairs. To ensure this gets properly looked into, we recommend submitting a Product Service Form so our team can assess the issue and assist with next steps. We truly appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to support you. https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-service/service-request

Sick pants, could use some more room

Material and quality are great but the crotch area has very little room. Basically its not very discrete down there however this could be a result of my larger thighs which fills up the pants in ways it wasn't meant to. I understand this is a running short and not designed for body builders but I still think the design could be improved to suit a wider range of body types. Still love the shorts and will wear them anyway. Also note before buying that there are no pockets except a little pouch on the back of your waist!

Everything but the sizing 100%

Want to love them. I have bought the medium and returned and bought the small. Year later bought the medium. Small is too small, medium is too big. According to the numerical sizing chart I am a size 31 which equates to 83cm waist (which is what I am exactly), and a 98cm hip, (which I am also exactly), these only come in the alpha sizing in which a size S equates to a 81cm waist and 95cm hip and a size M equates to an 86cm waist and a 100cm. So S is 2cm too small, and M is 3cm too large. Now I am a fit guy ,10% body fat, very active in the gym, ski patrol, etc.. and theres nothing I can do about my hip size, cant gain or lose muscle to fit. Kind frustrating to find sizing. Do a size revision (for all bottoms for that matter) and you got 5 starts a customer for life for bottoms.

Inside of the shorts goes up my groin

I’m a long standing Arcteryx customer across various product types. I generally have nothing but praise for the quality of the products. When I run the inside of the shorts goes up my groin. This didn’t happen to same extent with last years model. I end up having to pull the shorts down, although this is only a temporary solution. This also happens when I wear the shorts with the Arcteryx boxers. Disappointing for an expensive pair of shorts. Size is medium and size is not the issue.

Hello Ginger, thank you for sharing your experience with the Norvan Short 5". We're sorry to hear about the issue with the shorts riding up while running, especially since it wasn’t a problem with last year's model. We'll pass this feedback along to our design team as we strive to improve.

Best Running Shorts

In a rush I purchased the shorts as my standard shorts have started to fall short. Bought three pairs and the boxers as well. So light, great fit, almost like they aren’t even there. Fit is right where I expected, which is always great when ordering online. The intention is for them to be trail shorts but no issues with rolling them on the road.

Wish it had a lining

I bought these shorts because they are advertised for trail running. I personally love the fit of the shorts and the material but the lack of any lining does not allow you to run in them as is. You must wear briefs (not ideal) or some other liner. If you’re a male wearing these no way you can run in them as is.

Hello there, thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Norvan Short 5". We truly appreciate your perspective and understand how the absence of a built-in liner may feel limiting, especially for male runners seeking ready-to-wear comfort. The choice to go liner-free was made to prioritize breathability, weight reduction, and versatility—giving wearers the option to choose their preferred layering system depending on activity and comfort needs. While it may require a bit of customization, this approach aims to support a broader range of movement styles and individual preferences. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and will absolutely be shared with our product team as we continue refining our designs.

Novan shorts 5

Very thin and breathable. Almost perfect. The only issue I have with it is the waist fit. I've been using size S shorts and even had the 2022 model sz S, but this model is particularly loose fitting in the waist, I am nit really a fan of lacing up shorts unless necessary, but fit is not the same as 2022 model.

Norvan Short 5" has no lining

The absence of a liner in the Norvan Short 5" is a critical problem, unless you want to wear tights or briefs underneath these shorts. For running, hiking, and warm weather walking, a built-in liner provides support and privacy. Needing to pack and put on a separate undergarment feels inconvenient.

Hello Stokes, Thank you for your feedback on the Norvan Short 5". The decision to not have a built-in liner was intentional, to create a more lightweight and breathable short that offers greater versatility across different activities and layering preferences. We understand that this may feel less convenient for some, especially when used for high-output activities like running, and we truly appreciate you sharing your perspective. Your input helps guide future product improvements.

Great Unlined 5" Shorts

Most running brands seem to exclusively produce lined shorts, meaning I (and others who prefer to wear running underwear) have had to cut the liner out. These are the best unlined running shorts I have found. They're also light and have a secure back pocket that will comfortably fit several gels.

Unlined & Limited pocket

The material is nice, but that's about it. There is no liner boxer/brief. There is 1 pocket in the back and it's not large enough to hold a phone -- maybe keys and 1-gel. That's it. There needs to be more and a larger pockets and briefs otherwise this is a non-starter for most runners.
