Salewa footwear fits true to size and runs from medium to slightly narrow in width. For Mountaineering boots, Salewa recommends sizing up one half size to ensure comfort on long descents.
Salewa’s Alpine Fit incorporates a unique climbing lacing system that offers a large range of adjustability. To ensure a proper fit, Salewa recommends opening all laces through the forefoot as wide as possible before adjusting to your comfort, starting at the toes.

size 14 my "normal" size has been US 13 and running a tad qtide for years, but now often seems to fall under size 13.5 or 14. these Salewa shoes are good fits at 14, and I probably would have been fine at 13.5. seem to be pretty decent out of the box, comfortable and good looking. I admit that the lacing "system" raises some questions about long term usage, but it looks coolish I guess. Im satisfied with them at this time and if I remember I will provide feedback in a few months.
Since 1975 I have worn Danner, Asolo, Lowa, AKU, Zamberlan, all excellent. The Italian shoes and boots seem the best and this, my first Salewa, is among the very best in construction and fit. Also, the REI reviews and ratings seem pretty spot on. Highly commend reading and asking REI if you have questions.
Very comfortable with an infinite number of ways to tighten the laces. They do run a tad small, so size up a 1/2 size.
Order arrived promptly. Shoes seem well built and very lightweight. I was stoked about these shoes because my foot is narrow and previous reviewers said they ran narrow. I wear a 10.5 and and ordered that size. Even with lightweight socks, the shoes did seem narrow but unfortunately they must run short because my toes were right at the end, not good for hiking. So, if you are ordering these, get at least a half size up. Turns out my son needed some new hikers and wears a size 10. They fit him perfectly so no harm no foul!
I bought these and wore them twice before my canyoneering trip. They were comfy with my inserts. No blisters. We hiked 5 or 6 days and 4 of these days we rappelled and "swam" through slot canyons in Zion and Cap Reef. The shoes held up well and I was loving them, but two of the thin paracord eyelets on one shoe gave out. I was able to rig it so I could carry on but the support was diminished so I returned the shoes and got some La Sportivas. Lots of good feedback from other canyoneers on the brand so I hope they perform better. I am a 12.5-13 shoe wearer and the 13s fit perfectly.
Skip the breakin time and go 0 to 100 with these shoes. Right out of the box we sent a 7 mile round tripper across some gnarly loose stones and mud. The Wildfire's performed beyond expectations. It did take me 2 seperate stops to get the laces done to my liking but that's on me, not the shoes. Plenty of customization with where you want a tighter or looserer fit using the laces. I would put these up against anything else on the market for fit and performance - durability is being tested now. Get off the computer or phone and GO ADVENTURE!
The shoe is very comfortable straight out of the box, no ease in period necessary (just like the 100% blister free promise from the company). I found that I needed to size up by a half size from other Salewa shoes I have though (needed a 10, where others have consistently been a 9.5). I also found it to make my feet pretty hot, but that is not a game changer for me. This will be a cross-performance shoe, bridging the gap between everyday shoe and donning them for some hikes. The shoe looks great, has a great tread, flexible yet stiff enough to provide support, and the tongue is attached to the shoe so it stays in place. Really durable and comfortable shoe! I have liked Salewa shoes for years and this is no exception; would definitely recommend.
Purchased online knowing I would have to try on. Shoes are otherwise great for this category of Approach shoes, but definitely narrow. I get the 5.10 Guide Tennie typically yearly, but I want subdued colors, so have to go with other brands at times. I'm a wide foot, so sometimes have to stretch out a shoe and lacing to the toe helps. I could tell these would not work for me.
Product was fine. Unfortunately, the size was a bit too small. I should have ordered a half size bigger. Because there is no REI near me, and there is a cost to send these back, I am stuck with a pair of shoes I cannot wear. I used a birthday gift card, and I don’t feel like spending my money shipping back shoes that I have to try on again, and in worst case scenario, ship back again. So, I cut my losses, and will just donate these shoes. I wish REI had a better way of exchanging products that do not fit as expected.
Have owned a brown pair for nine months now and love them. They've been with me to Kuwait, Australia, Hawaii, Florida, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, Georgia, the Sierra Mountains in California, and to the gym. Like wearing a pair of slippers that you can go mountain climbing, camping, hiking or even running in. Ruggedly built, yet very easy on the feet. Keep in mind you'll likely have to size up one full size, but if possible they're well worth it. Hope Salewa never stops making these shoes.
