Very thin, great liner, too thin to stand alone I think.

I like the additional later of merino as a liner, but it is MUCH thinner than I was expecting it to be. I think it's even too thin to be a running hat or something for high output activities in the cold when you still want something on your head or over your ears, as it's like you're not wearing anything. If you aren't expecting it to function as a standalone hat, it is a good liner, when you want a little extra something under a hat that lets too much air through, or as a layering option with another hat for a wider range of comfort when stopping/starting, etc. I wear it as liner under the corduroy bucket hat.

Useless Bonnet

This product is useless. It doesn't come close to covering my ears or forehead. I ordered the large/extra large thinking it would come with a little extra room to spare given that I have a medium sized head. If I wore this outside I would likely get frostbite. Extremely disappointed. See photo :(

Great fit. Super thin!

I like the design and fit of this beanie but what I did not expect is how thin it truly is. You can see through it very easily. The level of warmth it provides is marginal and I feel like it's better suited as a sweat absorbent layer. The cuff is double layered which adds a slight warmth advantage and tiny bit of winter resistance. I think calling it alpine is a stretch. It's an excellent hat liner with some cool prints. Label reads wool and not merino. Unsure it that's an over sight but something I noticed. This beanie is super thin! I wish it was thicker.

20+ years of my all-time favorite workhorse beanie

I was first introduced to OR when I was issued this beanie while serving with 2nd Ranger Bn.. It was lightweight and could be worn comfortably under helmets. It was also fantastic at retaining heat - being bald, this made a huge difference in some very extreme environments (like the foothills of the himalayas in winter). I have bought and worn these ever since - and only needed to buy more when I lost one. Not once have they failed from any construction defect. My all-time favorite OR product, this beanie rocks.

My new favorite

I bought from REI Outlet at discounted price. Best value I’ve found in a long time. The tag stated 47% merino with mostly polyester balance and a little spandex. Very thin and lightweight. Double layer band around ears for warmth. Machine washable cold water.

Great product

I use it either for active tasks like back country skiing, hiking and trail running in cold weather or to wear casually. Dries fast and will keep you warm but I would recommend to bring a ticker hat if you plan on staying outside all day below -10 celcius and you will feel the wind going through if there's some. My only negative point is that the S/M size is borderline too large for me being a 5'10'' guy with a "normal sized" head I would have prefered a bit shorter on the length.

Great size, thickness, ear coverage.

What I most like about this is the size. Most thin beanies are more skull cap like and can't cover the ears at all. This one is big enough to give you some ear coverage for those days when you need something light over your ears but not a full on hat. Great thinness, it is an easy layer under a ball cap to extend the season for the ball cap, or under a bike helmet. With the merino wool fabric, no itch at all. Perfect beanie in every way.

Light & Warm

I was surprised how warm this kept my head. It is super thin but somehow retained a ton of warmth on my recent backpacking trip. I am bald and usually have a beanie for around camp & while sleeping when I am not moving around and staying warm that way. It is also very breathable. Really enjoying how lightweight and effective this is, compared to a thick wool beanie that I was using before.

Unreal real world and practical application toque

The only toque I found in relatively close comparison to this would be the arc'teryx leaf toques which were 50bucks now they don't make them. In terms of real world applications of having and using a low pro toque for under helmets hardhats general working this is extremely durable cozy fit and suits excellent to -20c I bought around 8 because of how awesome they are.
