Great protection from the sun
I got this specifically for my trek along the Salkantay in Peru. I knew I was going to be at high elevations as well as in rainforest and jungle. I needed something lightweight and provided UV protection. This became my go to item for the entire trek. I wore it everyday! It has become a part of my hiking uniform and it now comes with me for all my hiking, climbing, sun exposed adventures. I wish it was a bit more breathable, and offered other light colors but overall it definitely gets the job done.
Great spring and summer layer
My favorite Arc'teryx pieces share one thing: versatility. The Sima is destined to become a new favorite for me, as it has already served me well across environments and activities in its 2-week lifespan. I opted for the Women's pullover due to the zip front and rear venting. Size up 1 size from Men's (I wear a Small, and got the Women's in Medium). After a test run on the Boulder Skyline, I took it with me as my base layer to Tahoma, where I wore it car to car. Highlights: 1. Light fabric is comfortable next to skin, breathes well, and protects from sun. Think somewhere between the wind protection of a Squamish and the breathability of a Cormac. 2. Hood sits well over or under a helmet. 3. Jacket packs down into side pocket. I only have one complaint about the Sima: I got the piece in solace white, and am already picking up some permanent stains. I suppose that's inevitable, but perhaps opt for a darker color if you want the looks to last. I expect this piece to perform as a spring layer, summer emergency layer, and part of my ski touring kit for big mountains.
Great performance hoody
Yeah, this is a keeper. I love the fit (relaxed around the chest and abdomen), the fabric (light but offers light protection against the elements), and the usefulness (hoody and front breast pocket). I have run with it on cool days and even on warmer days ; I feel it allows enough breathing to wick away the moisture. If you are not a fan of lathering your body in sunscreen when you go out, this is a great option. This is a performance hoody and I plan to buy another although I wish it came in more colours.
Zipper chafe under vest
Took it out for a run for a couple hours, and I have a raw chafe line where the chest zipper was squished against my chest under my running vest. I’m going to see if i can move it around somehow, or I’ll completely pull out the seams and remove the zipper. But, if u dont use under a vest, Im sure it’d be fine. Material is light and very wicking.
Great hiking layer!
Very versatile piece that can be used as a lightweight cool running top, start of the day layer for a summer hike and much more!
The Absolute Business!
Absolutely fantastic bit of kit. Stylish, quality, super comfy and looks really works well
Strongly Mixed Feelings
I have very mixed feelings about this sun hoody. I like its fit and design, but I definitely don’t like the material. I bought this piece for high-intensity workouts in warm conditions - and after about a dozen uses I find it simply isn’t breathable enough - and its almost too “rubbery” in its feel. Consequently it feels almost “clammy” when worn next-to-skin in warm-to-hot conditions (which I consider above about 28C). I find the thin but tightly “woven” material keeps my body heat IN, to the point where I begin sweating in it even when my exertion levels are low. I find it works well for me in only two very different use cases: 1. When I am completely inactive and sitting in the sun (which is not what I bought it for); 2. If I pour a bucket of water over my head and saturate it before a high intensity work out in hot conditions (above 30C), in which case it works really well (I know this sounds ridiculous, but it takes a long time to fully dry in these conditions and thus provides nice evaporative cooling for an extended period of time). In terms of the hood - while the shape and cut is very good (it fits very well over a ball cap) again the material works against its functionality to the point where I am hotter with the hood on (owing to it holding heat in) than with it off. I own other sun hoodies and their hoods block the sun but allow sufficient airflow to keep my head cooler (when they’re on). So…while under some very limited conditions I can effectively use this product, the reality for me is that it isn’t very versatile and overall I am disappointed in it.
Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to share such detailed feedback on the Sima Pullover Hoody. We’re glad to hear you like the fit and design, but we’re sorry the material and breathability haven’t met your expectations for high-intensity use in hot conditions. Your insights on fabric performance, comfort, and versatility are valuable, and we’ll share them with our product team as we continue to refine this piece.
