Don’t waste your time on this one

I got this pack on double sale for fifty one dollars - and I’m still returning it. I really feel that as a coop REI needs to do a better job screening its products before it commits to them. If someone had simply tried on this pack they would have immediately noticed a major design flaw: the back straps are straight (not contoured) and attach to the pack too close together. The result is that when you tighten the sternum strap the back straps compress your carotid arteries on both sides of your neck. Other dealbreakers: the pack is HEAVY, there are NO zippered or closable pockets inside so there is no way to secure keys or earphones or batteries for example, the back is highly contoured (presumably to allow better air flow) so a laptop will not be able to lay flat and it will probably put too much pressure on the center of the lid of your laptop and cause damage, the hip belts are way oversized for such a small pack, and the only small pocket on the outside is a single downward zipper that would be trivial to pull down and steal from while walking on a street. There are much better - and unfortunately more expensive - day packs out there. Don’t waste your time on this one.
