Build in piezoelectric lighter doesn't work
It's a stove...it was the right size to fit into our camp kitchen. It looks nice and functions as expected...EXCEPT that it won't start with the built in starter. I can see a blue spark when the button is pushed but it never lights the stove so I have to use a lighter to get it to fire up. I know, I know...first world problems right?, but paying this much for a stove that won't light new out of the box is insane...I wish I would have looked at the reviews here and on Reddit to know that SO many people are having this issue with this GSI stove. I contacted GSI, but got no response from their support about resolving it. Would not recommend...stoves at a much lower price point that have working piezoelectric lighters would be a much better choice.
low quality, igniter not working
Very low quality parts, not assembled correctly from factory, screws loose in the box right from REI. Igniter design is horrible…. Works 0% of the time because of the spark placement. What a huge waste, should have went Coleman or something else
Great but starter doesn’t work
Once the stove was lit, it worked perfectly. Great size to fit two pots/pans at the same time; side shields did a great job blocking the wind. I’m returning it though because the starter never worked in about 10 attempts across 2 camping trips (including my initial attempt to test it before the first trip). I had to use a lighter every time, which did the trick but the fact that I had to do that made me concerned about the overall quality of the product, especially with propane involved.
Excellent stove, 4+ years
We have had this stove for 4+ years. It works great. The igniter still works. Both burners work. Set up and dismantle is quick and easy. We use this for botj camping and emergency cooking when the power goes out at home. It has never let us down.
I would never purchase again…from anywhere else that is!
I purchased a Selkirk 540 stove several years ago and used it regularly with zero issues. This year was a little different when using it. I had to resort to using an external ignition source. Soon after that I found the air/fuel mixture to be way off and with no real way to adjust it, I was forced to contact customer service (which I really didn’t want to do). Well that’s where things got really weird, after I provided some information to the company representative, He told me he was issuing a replacement unit at ZERO cost to me, NO shipping fee, NO charges of any sort…FREE!!_x000D_ When I asked where he wanted the broken unit returned to he said to either donate it to charity or dispose of it if totally useless. I was absolutely shocked by this and this one act has made me a customer for life!
Selkirk 540 + camp stove
I haven’t used the stove yet but it seems solidly built and is a great size. Also a great price. I look forward to its first use.
So happy
So much lighter, smaller and more efficient than lugging the BlackStone around.
