Wiggle room on sizing (not clear from description)

My dog is a lean 50-lb cattle dog mix with 27" girth, right on the S/M cusp. As suggested in product description, I sized up to M, which was too big even on the tightest adjustment - the belly band sat far south of his "armpits" and dangled below his belly. I exchanged in store for a size S, which fits much better - maybe a hair snug on the neck and 1/4" too short in the belly band, but not enough to cause any discomfort. Belly fit is good, and it didn't have to be let all the way out, so there is some wiggle room on the sizing, which is not clear from the product description. It would be incredibly helpful to include in the description the length of the chest piece (that goes between the front legs), and more accurate ranges for neck and girth.

Great for the fur babies!

We've used several different harnesses for our pup (he's a 5-year-old Scottie mix, 23 lbs) but none seemed to fit his barrel chest quite as well. We figured we'd give this one a try and it fit him like a glove. He doesn't run away from us when we try to put it on him which is a big deal- his tail wags the second we grab it from the coat hook. We love the reflectors along the harness as well as the sturdy hook for the matching leash. It also washes really well and dries pretty quickly. We ended up getting it in two more colors so we can mix and match!

Best harness I’ve ever owned!

love this harness! I have a 15 year old cattle dog mix (38lbs) and a 7 year old tripod, lab/pit (65lbs). Both sometimes need assistance so the handle on top is great. I tried so many harnesses and this is the only harness that works for my tripod. He is missing his front, right leg so none of the harnesses staid in place. This one does! I bought these harnesses two years ago and we are always outside hiking and swimming and they still look great! I also enjoy the loop to clip a light to for activities at night. This is by far the best harness I’ve ever owned. I’ve loved every product I’ve bought from this brand!

Easy to put on.

I like it. Provides extra hoop for light. My dog doesn’t seem to mind it. I like the color and material. I got the hardness as I have tried the brands leashes and I like them. It is easy to put on and adjust.

Straps--Stretch

I have a Husky(~48lbs). The Ruffwear Harness did not work out well for us, in fact my dog was able to slip out of the harness and went on a "free run" through our entire neighborhood. After daily use for less than 4 months the material the straps are made out of, have some sort of elastic material in them causing them to stretch and sag a great deal in a fairly short period of time, this allowed my dog to slip her body + head out of the harness. I would not say this is the best quality material, as my dog is not overly rambunctious and does not tug very much. PS. I used this harness along with the Ruffwear Roamer bungie leash.

Dog hated it

We really want a harness for our 6 month old lab puppy but cannot find one that he will tolerate long enough to adjust. This one needs to be taken on and off to adjust because the straps are very tight and impossible to adjust with a wiggling puppy who is trying to bite the harness. We got it on him enough to attempt a walk, he didn't pull but I think it had more to do with his will to walk and enjoy life being zapped by this harness. This harness does seem to be nice quality and it looks okay albeit a little bulky. If you have a harness loving dog, this might be a good choice.

Excellent harness, but not for big headed dogs

The harness is well made, it looks comfortable and the reflective trim is a very nice useful feature However, because the dog has to slide their head in the harness, it does not work well for dogs who have big heads (eg. bully type dogs). My dog has a giant head and for him to be able to wear the harness, I have to leave the "collar" portion of it loose enough for his head to slid through it. The result is that the harness is very loos on his neck. When he pulls, the entire front portion of the harness (collar and chest "band") rotates sideways. It does not seem to be unsafe (because the back portion of the harness is well fit to his chest and passes behind his arms). However, it looks quite uncomfortable in this situation. We got this harness because our dog had surgery in his elbow area and the armpit region is extra-sensitive. This harness sits far away from the armpit, so we are keeping it, despite it not being perfect.

A big upgrade

A huge upgrade over my previous harness, my dog likes this one better too. Fits particularly well, excellent build. No metal jangling buckles to add weight and spook him getting it on and off. Highly recommend adding Ruffwear’s “Beacon” light for safety and visibility. My 45lb dog is on the line between medium and small. The small fit him comfortably and securely.

Perfect

Love this harness. My 23 lb Pomsky needed a stronger harness when she approached two years old. She is also hard to fit. I ordered many different types when she was younger only to return as she has a deep chest. And small neck. This one is perfect. Easy to adjust and pretty. Great quality. I got the leash and collar to match. She gets so many compliments! I brought her into REI and tried it on before purchasing. Easy to put on and take off.
