I absolutely love this shoe. Super comfortable i got wide and they're amazing. Thank you new balance
Excellent hiking shoe. I walk 3 miles a day five days a week with these shoes. You become acclimated with the ground, and then you begin to become naturally part of the trail and you don’t want to stop walking. The grip is satisfying on the dirt trails. The shoes are robust, lightweight, and agile, which makes it a joy to go hiking. I purchased a second set of these shoes as they are gratifying in every way, and fit like a glove. This review applies to my experience with these shoes on dry and semi dry trails only.
Initially very comfortable but within minutes of wearing the tongue slides down into the side, creating, uncomfortable bunching and pressure. Large oversight for a trail shoe to not have a gusseted or Daisy chained tongue. As well it seems as though the tread wears quite quickly. If not for this it would be quite a comfortable shoe with a nice wide feel and decent grip
Comfortable but slippery. The tongue is not attached so it's not the best when putting them on. I would have thought that since it is a hiking running shoe, that the sole would have been harder. And when the road is humid and wet, you have to be careful, not to slip. But those are the only negative. It is a really comfortable show and I will order a second pair.
Arrived today and my first impressions are the quality has taken a step back from the v7. There is much less padding around the ankle which also feels harder and a lot less luxurious. I agree with a previous review in that they don’t feel as stable as previous versions and the gussetless tongue is also a big miss! I can’t help feeling these have been a victim of cost cutting measures. Although I haven’t had them on for very long the comfort seems ok but not in the same league as the v7. Hopefully this will be rectified for the v9 otherwise this may be the last pair I buy which is a shame as I’m a big fan of these and New Balance in general.

I do have one issue that I will get to, however I do love this shoe for its long run comfort and durability, only on its 3rd run I did a 100km enduro trail run, apart from the expected blister (that I didn't notice until after) this shoe provided the long lasting comfort and consistent feel I wanted. I would prefer the tounge to be fixed in place, I did on several occasions have to adjust it this could be due to the distance I was running, I think in 100km I only adjusted it 3 times. Now for my issue mentioned at the start. I have a manufacturing fault on one shoe, the out sole is not fully glued down and small grit can slide underneath the rubber. Being translucent you can see the grit under the out sole. I'm not entirely sure what to do about this as I've put 100km on the shoe in 1 run before I noticed.
Sized a bit wider than the typical NB 4e last, but quite comfortable. However after 2 or so weeks of work at a grocery store, the over moulded sole is starting to separate with the shoe body. Nothing major yet, but it gives me little hope that these will last through the end of the year.
Good looking shoe that doesn't fit right. I've worn 11.5 2Es for decades. This shoe was a bit snug when purchased but I thought it might stretch a bit. It did not. After closer inspection I realized the front part of the shoe is shaped differently compared to my 940s. It is not as wide.
Seems like NB went cheap with the materials on this newer model. The tongue is a thin stretchy flap of fabric that needs constant readjusting when putting on, and much of the upper shoe is a stretchy material that doesn't provide anywhere near the same structure previous models provided. The Hierro really went downhill with the v7 model and this v8 is even worse. Might as well put two sponges under your feet and wrap them with a thin layer of elastic fabric. Compared to the previous models, these feel like they could roll off your feet changing directions too quickly. If you were loyal to the Hierro based on the v5 - v7 models, you're better off seeking whatever sizes are left out there of the older models.
Love the new cushoning in these. I had a pair of the v7's and wore the heck out of them. I still find them to be a bit warm but to airy and you loose protection so it's understandable. My only concern is that the new lugs on the bottom are a bit small. Great for light trails but not as grippy as some may like for medium to more aggressive trails. I would assume a lot of people just where these as a heavier duty casual shoe, and the smaller lugs would be more comfortable in that scenario. Overall very happy with them and look forward to wearing these to death until the v9's.
