I have a couple pairs to take on summer trips alpine scrambling and rock climbing. They're thin enough to keep me cool but just thick enough to protect me and withstand abrasion if I need to use a knee on the rocks. They're also very stretchy and I never feel restricted in them, especially the soft stretch waistband. Lastly, they dry quickly. Whether it's sweat, mushy snow, or a stream crossing I don't need to worry about staying soggy for my whole trip.
*Please make similar pants for women!* I’m a woman and really like these pants. I’ve used one pair for hiking for over a year and another for pottery class. Pros: - Side pockets are perfect - no velcro or buttons, great size and placement; best side pockets I’ve ever had. - Material is durable, quick-drying, and comfortable. - Cut works surprisingly well on my body, better than the women’s version. - They look better than most hiking pants. Cons: - Length runs short: I’m 5'4" and need a 28/32, which is surprising for my height. - Colors don’t match photos: “Espresso” is a muted brown, and “Deep Pond” is much darker than shown (disappointing).
I like these pants a lot, very light stretchy and comfortable. Looks okay as a casual pant and a good travel pant for these reasons. However the 32” length option runs a 30.5” inseam. Kuhn states on their website that the inseams run 0.5” shorter than the length by design, but they are really 1.5” shorter. With that in mind I would exchange for the 34” inseam option but REI doesn’t carry that.
I purchased my first pair of these pants for a fossil hunting trip along the Jurassic coast in England. They were perfect for all the bending and squatting required as I worked my way along the rugged coast. The stretchy fabric did now show any damage from the abrasive rocks. There was no obvious wear after the trip. Another pair was purchased after the trip and both pairs are now used for daily wear. When needed additional pairs will be purchased. I did have reservations regarding the color: ‘deep pond’ but this turned to be a dark bluish black and was pleasing to the eye.
Great pants very comfortable and practical with good pocket space for travel and hiking. Quick dry material that seems durable so being near waterfalls or getting caught in some rain and you can dry them relatively fast. Only concerns are a bit pricy and the material is loud when you walk.
I would give these pants 5 stars, but I haven't had them long enough to judge the longevity. The fabric is thin and I am concerned that they may not last long. Now for the good parts. These pants may be the most comfortable pants I have ever owned. They are perfect for hiking, the office and traveling in and are my go to these days. The pockets are well positioned and nicely done. Good stretch in the right areas. I only wish they came in a 34" lengths.
Ordered online. Color was as expected and waist was accurate. Good looking pants. The hip/zipper area was extremely tight and uncomfortable. The dealbreaker was the noise when moving with these on. I felt like Kostanza in that episode where his suit made swishing noises when he walked. I walked into the kitchen while my wife was making dinner and before I said anything she said “are you making that swishing noise?” Returned
My second pair of Kuhl Decptr Pants proved the first pair was NO deception. They are light, rugged, cooling yet warm. They are my favorite travel pants, as the deep, yet discreet pockets hold all of the essentials, while looking stylish and not full-blown "tactical". Airports seem not to like "tactical wear". They also do not stand out and make this impression in foreign travel, yet, they are as "tactical" as any pants I own. Now that I have brown and blue, I look forward to black and grey. With four pairs of Decptr's, people will think I have a closet full of variety!
I have been eyeing this pants online for awhile. Local store is about 50 miles. All my pants are tapered /slim fit style pants . Body type: Athlete . Body Physique. A picky guy who likes only a few things that fit my body type . cheap or expensive but as long as it fits and accentuate my body, its mine to keep. Once i put on this pants at the store. I fell in love with it . Too bad it didn't have my inseam. Tried on the 34/32. 34/30 was only available online. I found a pant that not only looks great for my body physique type but i can wear this for any occasion. You name it: hiking/ night out with my lady friend/office. This pants make me look good anywhere without feeling out of place. Modern look and stylish. About myself 172 lbs and 5'9. Bought a Size 34/30
I love these pants. They are so flexible and stretch to your every move. Light weight. They are great for traveling. Also a pocket for your phone on the side of your leg. Great for a smart casual look.
