The Rafiki powder ski is a great ski! I use it all the time, not just on powder days. It is great for powder and trees, it’s very responsive and very maneuverable! It is also great for groomers and technical steeps. Don’t let the width scare you! I would definitely recommend this ski if you’re looking for something for powder days or all-around skiing on the mountain! I am 5’6” and an expert level skier and use the 172cm (about 5’8”). I would go on the larger end if you’re debating between lengths for this ski because of the large rocker and smaller turn radius, it skis as if it’s a little shorter than you might expect. All around I fully recommend this ski to anyone looking for some fun ski days!
This is the best pow ski I've every had! She makes the funnest surfy turns and will float through anything but can still hold her own on groomers too! If you're looking for a pow ski that you can still rip around on the hardpack this is the ski for you! The turning radius is awesome and responsive and I have no problem making quick turns in tight shoots or trees! 10/10 recommend!
This ski is an absolute blast whether it's carving down soft groomers, ripping down steep bowls or flying through the trees! They are lightweight yet stable, maneuverable yet powerful. Before I moved out west I would even use this skis on hardpack days out east because they're just so freakin' fun!
My rafiki skis are legit powde lovers that are floaty and fun to ski in the deep snow and flowy trees! Ps - I brought mine to Japow last February and had THE BEST TIME!!!
I absolutely love this ski. It is designed to be friendly in powder and that is definitely where it shines, but don't think that's all the Rafiki is good for. I have mine mounted up for backcountry adventures and the Rafiki handles a variety of conditions quite well. I ski predominantly in the Lake Tahoe basin and this ski is light on the uphill, but handles the varying conditions and sierra cement like a dream. I am a huge fan of the hybrid turn radius which initiates turns with a good little punch, but manages to still feel stable at higher speeds.
I use these for ski touring and powder days at the resort. I've beaten and battered my Rafiki's on early/late season missions and they've never let me down. I love how responsive and playful, yet durable and strong, these skis are. I float through pow like I'm flying through the air, weave through trees like the wind, and cut through the crud like a laser; I love how well you can maintain control on these. I've been using these to train for a 100 mile ski traverse and am stoked to take them with me- that's how much I love these!
I don’t get the hype on these. I have found them to be very clumsy, awkward and hard to maneuver. I am not someone who drops change on new skis all the time and my other skis made their debut around 2006 or so, I was excited to try these and set them up with side country bindings so I could hit both in line groomers and back pow. I haven’t found them to be responsive at all. It could be that I’m just used to my old skis, I’ve been back on them most of the time since I got these, it could be that they’re not made for gals my size. I’m 5,6 and ≈ 113-114 lbs so It could just be that it doesn’t work for my weight and hight. I also found it’s really hard to ski with my young daughter in these, my husband and I often ski together then switch off to do laps on our own, when I’m with her it’s harder to get her out of sticky situations if I’m using these skis.
This ski is my best friend on the mountain. Truly the best powder flotation device I have ever skied. It is nimble, and quick to respond making it playful anywhere you go on the mountain (in bounds or out). While it is both powerful and trustworthy, I find this ski makes my turns feel light and graceful regardless of where I’m skiing. When spring rolls around, you’ll be stoked you have these to pop around some slushy bumps!
I'm pretty sure when Muhammad Ali said "Float like butterfly, sting like a bee" he was actually predicting the future of women-made powder skis because there is no better way to describe the Rafiki. This ski floattttttts, slashes and shreds.
