Different pair of gloves

I was excited about giving these gloves a try as the lobster glove concept seemed quite unusual. Once they arrived and I put them on It was strange that the lobster finger sleeve was not open for both fingers to fit, instead it was 2 individual sleeves and the lobster sleeve only provided exterior coverage.I will say that these gloves performed well on a cold mid October day after the 1st snow while biking the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail in Anchorage Alaska. I was the only biker on the trail and the Pearl Zumi did well in cold rain sleet conditions. Not what I was expecting but ended up really liking these gloves for bicycling in cold conditions. I would recommend adding these to your glove collection.

New staple for winter and colder rides.

I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These gloves keep my fingers warm on cool rides and make shifting gears a breeze. Whether in the drops or mountain biking they are very versatile. Tactile fabric on the fingers nicely grips the shifters and holds firm when shifting without any slipping. The gloves also have soft fabric for wiping any perspiration off your skin as you heat up on the ride. Will use with a liner or under pogies for really cold rides. Stitching and fabric appears to be solidly made. They also really wick perspiration well.

Great all-around cold weather cycling gloves

I've been looking for a decent glove for biking in colder temps, and so far this Pearl Izumi Lobster Evo seems like a nice option. My fingers are the first to get cold when riding and so far only my bulkiest trigger finger ice climbing glove/mitts keep my fingers warm in really cold weather. I tested these on rides that were between 36 and 39 degrees and found they kept my fingers reasonably warm for most of the ride, with only some coldness in my fingertips at the end of the ride. Once the temps got into the mid 40's my hands were getting a little too warm. I tried these on my drop bar bikes as well as my mountain bike and feel that they have pretty good dexterity on both. Shifting on a "brifter" style gravel or road bike does take some getting used to where you need to position your finger to hit just one shifting paddle, but it is doable and seems like it will be fine once you get used to it. My drop bar plus bike has a bar end shifter and than was no problem at all. I did find I may need to adjust the brake levers in a bit since the reach from the drops was a bit far with the extra padding of the glove as compared to my bare hand. I wasn't sure if they'd be too bulky for shifting on my mountain bike, but they worked just fine. I had enough clearance to shift with my thumb and finger. I was surprised that I could open the camera on my iPhone and take a photo while wearing these gloves. I wasn't expecting that. It is perhaps a little clumsy but nice to know it can be done. These gloves are very comfortable, and seem very well made. The combined section for your pinky and ring fingers actually has a glove like liner, so your fingers aren't really touching as they would be in a mitt. The fabric seems to have decent wind protection. I didn't get to test them in rain, or I should say I didn't feel like riding in the downpour we had, so I can speak to how they handle water. All in all these seem like a really nice gloves and will work great for all the types of biking I do. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because my fingers still got a little cold in high 30's temps, but my hands do get cold easy anyhow. I do think if you run warm, these gloves will keep your fingers plenty warm in cold weather.

Great gloves for the fall and mild winter

These gloves have kept me warm so far. I commute to work by bike in Minnesota and I have biked a lot in the winter (a little less lately). The cold just set in and these gloves are very comfortable, warm, and breathe well. I have used them in some light rain and they repelled the water well, but most of the precipitation is snow which they have no problem with. I am not sure about the durability, but the palm seems tough enough for biking. This is my first time wearing lobster gloves and I really like them. They allow you to pull the break and change gears easily while keeping the small fingers cold. Most modern bikes have hydraulic breaks, so I would be fine only having the index finger free. Unfortunately, I can imagine that these gloves would not be enough when riding in single digit temperatures.

Overall excellent cool/cold weather cycling glove

These will be my new go-to fall and winter cycling gloves. I've used a previous version of Pearl iZUMi lobster gloves, with only two finger compartments (two fingers in each), and while those were very warm, they were lacking in functionality. These Evo gloves are the best of both worlds. With a split pointer/middle finger, they allow for some finesse on the bike or working zippers and other gear. Yet, they’re very warm and comfortable. I commute by bike most days of the week in Boulder, CO, and so far I’ve used them in temps between 28-38 degrees F. My hands stayed warm and cozy every time. They’re very comfortable on the bike, without extra fabric bulk getting in the way of gripping the bars or shifting. Granted, I have bar-end shifters, so I can’t say how they would work with brake lever shifters (I imagine they would be fine for these as well). I always wear XL size gloves, and these fit very well. I have very wide palms, so sometimes my hands feel restricted when I try to stretch my hands out, but I don’t get that feeling with these gloves. The nose wipe on the thumb is nice, the palm/finger fabric is grippy but supple, and the back-hand fabric blocks wind effectively. The stitching and build quality seems solid and reliable. The only issue is the touchscreen spot on the pointer finger: it’s very cumbersome. It works in a pinch for, say, answering a call, but I wouldn’t use it for much more than very simple gestures on a touchscreen device. Otherwise, this is a solid glove for cool and cold temps. With a liner glove, and depending on ride duration, these would probably be good down to about 15-20 degrees F.

Perhaps the best cold "gloves," but not perfect.

I've always wanted these gloves-- I'm someone who has somewhat poor circulation, and I've always struggled to find gloves that work. Mittens work, but to safely ride a bike (and brake/shift) I need the use of my individual fingers. I decided to put the Lobsters to the test. I used these on a climbing ride, starting cloudy at 45F and topping out sunny in the upper 30s. They were perhaps a little too warm on the ascent, which isn't surprising. I did sweat quite a bit, however the gloves dealt with the moisture fine-- the material around the wrists didn't clump or get irritated like other gloves I've used. I loosened the wrist strap halfway up to breath, which was designed to be easy (since I'm wearing two gloves, I had to employ the use of my teeth). The descent was a fast and consistent 35-45mph. My hands did get start to get cold after 30min, which isn't great. However as the altitude lowered and the ambient temps heated up, so did my core and hands. Overall the ride was fine, not great, but the best of any gloves I've used that aren't battery-heated. I wouldn't use these below freezing temps. The materials are superb. These are great gloves by construction and material consideration, even down to the details of where the soft material is for wiping one's nose and the red tether loop for taking the gloves off easier. Reinforced leather grip wraps at the thumb for better grip and durability with drop bar riding. I felt that the investment was sound. For those that are curious, the pinky and ring fingers are separated by fingered glove material within the "mitten." I wonder if perhaps the shared warmth would've been better without the divider.

Awesome light weight lobster gloves

Light weight lobster gloves that keep me warm. I like that there are two fingers free to make sure braking is easy and never a problem. The Velcro wrist makes it easy to strap over or under jacket arms

Toasty Gloves

I’m really excited for these gloves. I’ve been roughing it with “summer” gloves during cold rides for a long time. My hands are finally happy! I was able to use these gloves on a ride where the windchill brought the temps down to 27F. Not once did I feel the wind through these gloves. They are very warm and I’m even considering using them for winter hikes as well. The warmth doesn’t come without compromises. The padding/insulation throughout is thicker than normal gloves, which is to be expected. This makes shifting (on standard MTB shifters) slightly more cumbersome. Shifting on drop bars similarly has a “bulky” feeling. However, these compromises are heavily outweighed by the attention to detail of the glove. The finger loops let you properly dry the glove when your hands start sweating (because they are that hot). The touchscreen compatible tips actually work. (At least on an iPhone screen) The cuffs have a Velcro adjustable tab that at first, appear to be way to small to have any functionality, but you are easily able to manipulate them with gloves hands. I have no doubt that these gloves will perform as the days get even colder.

Really nice gloves - but only to about 45 degrees.

These are super nice gloves. Comfy, well built and give you plenty of dexterity for braking, changing gears, etc. However, I bought them for cold weather riding and anything below 45 degrees and you'll be uncomfortable. I have a short, 3 mile commute each way. On the days below 40 your fingers are pretty uncomfortable and anything under 30 they're downright painful. They're fine for the shoulder seasons but not great for a Midwest winter glove.

Great mitts and articulation.

I live in a western suburb of Minneapolis and have used these several times in the last month for short bike rides and walks. Temperatures have been in the 30’s to 40’s and wet. These lobster mitt style gloves are fantastic. They allow me to easily change gears and use the brakes on my bike. While using them for walks, my fingers are warm and comfortable, I can use my phone too, and if I need to take them off quickly I can with no problem. I like the two reflective stripes on the back of the gloves, definitely helps with visibility. I’ll be interested to see how they handle when the temperatures drop well below freezing but I’m optimistic they’ll perform well. I have large hands, I have the XL’s and they fit great. I would highly recommend these gloves.
