Warm, comfortable, secure. Very pleased
It was time to replace my 40 year old Coast Guard issue foul weather hat, so I purchased this. I actually like it better than its predecessor - the flaps seal well around the ears when down and fold up nicely when not needed;, it stays secure in the wind; the visor does not interfere with binocular use and will flip up if for some reason it gets in the way; it is quiet - very little noise from fabric rubbing ears or collar; and it is warm. The elastic on the back of the flaps, mentioned by another reviewer, was not noticeable to me. My 7 3/8 head fit nicely in the L/XL and should be ok for even larger. It may not last 40 years, but I probably won't make it to 114 anyway.
Might be perfect for you but was a disaster for me
You are going to either love this hat or hate this hat so I strongly recommend you try it on the store before buying. I ordered it online and was very disappointed when I received it so I immediately returned it. With a minor change it could be a 5-star hat that fits anyone. The fit of the hat portion itself was nice, the fleece insulation is very comfortable and feels like it would be nice and warm. The problem is that the flap at the back of the hat that extends down to cover your neck has a VERY tight elastic band that draws the hat in close to your neck. For me it was TOO tight and the hat was immediately unwearable. ALL it would take to make this hat perfect would be to add a cordlock so you could adjust the tension on the flap in and out. In summary, don't buy this hat without trying it on. You might love it or like me, it might drive you crazy.
Great hat, but brim is too short
Great hat, probably the best winter hat I own; warm and comfortable. My only complaint is that the brim isn't long enough. I bought one of these hats for my husband a couple of years ago and the men's version had a brim like a baseball cap. The current version has a "half-size" brim that doesn't protect one's eyes (or eyeglasses) from sun or precipitation. Would give this hat 5 stars if the brim was longer.
Works well for smaller heads; keeps ears snug
I LOVE THIS HAT! I am female with a small head (21.5" circumference), and the S/M hat works for me. Although it is nominally too big (comes down to my eyebrows), this better protects my glasses and eyes from wind and precipitation, and keeps my forehead warm to prevent migraines. It also snuggles perfectly around my ears to keep them warm. I had bought one of these several years ago and misplaced it, and had to go back to pick up a new one.
Can't go wrong with this hat for winter
This hat is one of the best purchases I have made for winter. Not only is the hat waterproof, but it fits snuggly and is very warm. When I use the ear flaps, there is no air leakage; my ears and head both stay toasty warm. Love the color, The only improvement would be for a longer bill to better block the rain/snow from my face in bad weather and to shade my eyes more when the sun is out. Overall, still my go-to hat for winter.
Nice warm hat
I bought this hat to replace a polar-fleece hat of similar style. I like the fact this one is water/weather proof. Keeps my head warm in any weather condition...very functional hat.
Fantastic waterproof insulated hat
This hat fits me perfect. It stays on during xc skiing and hiking. It also seems to manage heavy sweating with wicking it away from head surface. Earflaps stay put over ears. The brim is a good shape and works with eyeglasses. Full disclosure, my husband wanted to return this hat because he felt the ear flaps rolled away from his ears letting in cold air. I have not experienced that, even pulling long hair back in a low ponytail exposing the ears. This is the insulated waterproof hat I’ve been looking years for!
Comfort and protection
Now that it is getting colder outside, I was looking for an all weather hat (with a bill for sun and ear covering for cold). This one is great! It is soft and comfortable. The ear flaps and back fit very well, even with glasses.
Primo cap for winter walks
Bought this at the Boise, Idaho store today and was looking for a warm cap that had a brim. Although when the flaps were folded inside the cap I felt it just sat on the top of my head. I went walking with it and found if the flaps are folded up on the outside, it fits great! The elastic keeps this on in a wind and when flaps are covering the ears it is warm beyond expectation.
Great purchase
This is the warmest hat I’ve ever worn. I really appreciate having flaps cover my ears. The waterproof shell keeps my head dry in the rain & snow.
