Great fitting pack for water and other essentials

I bought this hydration pack prior to a visit to Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the Grand Canyon National Parks. A hydration pack just made sense to eliminate constant stops to remove water from a pack sleeve in order to stay hydrated in the early summer sun out at these Western beauties. The included 2.5 liter hydration pouch seemed to be just enough, but on certain outings I carried an additional liter in each of the side bottle compartments. Even with all that water, I still had room for a long sleeve shirt, medium density fleece, rain coat, small first aid kit, 1/4 roll of toilet paper, small binoculars, and an insulated lunch container to hold a bag lunch and ice packs - in the main compartment. A rollable hat and sunscreen, snacks, headlamp, compass and whistle, keys, etc. were in other pockets. In other words, lots of space for gear in changing weather temps and conditions when on a full day hike.
The technician at REI had me try various packs on with 10# weights, and this pack was hands down the most comfortable with both the air ventilation between my back, and the hip belt to shift weight off of my shoulders. The technician also helped adjust the Airspeed frame so that it properly fit me.
With the air gap between my back, and a full water sleeve, the depth left for stuffing gear in the main compartment got a little tight at the start of the day (when adding the water sleeve to an already loaded pack - but it just required a little shifting of gear.
Pack seems a bit tall at first glance, but fit in overhead bin with no issues.
So glad I went with a hydration pack, and with this Osprey Stratos pack!

The pack is very comfortable, and I like that it has an adjustable frame. I also like the 85oz bladder, which is great for longer hikes.
What I don't like is the side zipper on the front pouch, I find it difficult to get in and out of. I don't understand why they did this as opposed to the top mount zipper on the previous model. Also the little zipper pouches on the waist strap are unusable when hiking. It takes both hands to operate so I have to take the pack off if I want to use the zipper pouches.
I am seriously thinking about returning this pack because of the inconveniences.

Expensive but Worth every dollar

I am a 41 year old male and from my experience this is the best bag for Hiking hands down. It has so many adjustable settings and easy to access pockets which helps during a long days hike. You have 5 options to set your fit at the shoulder and right hip length, these setting help to make adjustments all through the hike as over a long day at different times your body feels differently and having this option really makes a difference. Other thing I like is the back mesh which allows airflow and gives stability helping to distribute weight evenly. Side pockets are very well engineered, you can insert the bottle from top during normal time, but during hike these side pockets have side opening, which makes easy to access the water bottle without stopping. Even with the hydration bladder for a day long hike you always take water bottle with electrolyte mixed in it.

Pack fits, carries well, hydration hose a problem

I loaded the Manta 24 and took it on “rugged” trails three separate days. The pack allowed me to adjust for various comfort needs fairly easily. The pack worked pretty except for a relatively minor problem – the hydration hose seems to be just a bit too short. With the pack adjusted to fit my body the hose and mouthpiece stayed in place on the magnet, but if I was exerting myself the mouthpiece would occasionally pop off the magnet. I tried some changes in the hose routing and it wasn’t as frequent as a problem. I’m thinking that a hose two or three inches longer might solve the problem.

Comfortable and sturdy day pack

I had several years' experience with my previous day hiking pack and had some pretty specific wants from a replacement - a sturdier frame and better ventilation at the back. This pack covered these and had some extra bonuses! - Large sturdy frame - keeps the weight spread out and close to your body, well supported by the hip belt. - Excellent mesh ventiliation on your back. - Stow on the Go trekking pole loops - no more stopping to take your pack off! - Built in rain cover - Included hydration system I've used it for multiple day hikes this fall season, covering about 50 miles so far, and am very pleased with the purchase. The only drawback I've found and reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that the hydration system has a very strong plastic taste. I've tried a couple of methods to remove this, which have definitely improved the situation but the taste is still there.

I have been an ultralight hiker for a long time, but as I get older, I don't mind carrying a slightly heavier pack like this. The comfort level is amazing vs. my ultralight packs. Still use the same UL gear, so there's not too much weight difference. It's been so long since I used a normal pack, but this is a pleasant surprise. I will still use my UL packs but will definitely add this in the rotation of gear.

Great pack, but not perfect

Purchased this a couple years ago and I hike with it quite often. It's quit comfortable all around. Sits great on my lower back and snugs up great. I get no shoulder pain with this after using it for many miles. The design is amazing how it lifts off your back and allows airflow so you don't get overly hot and sweaty. My only complaint really is that the pouch/pockets on the belt need some work on the zippers. I cannot close them one handed and I often have to reach across with my other hand to hold it to zip back up. Needs more color options. I prefer to have a bright colored pack when hiking, just in case I get lost or injured so I can be more easily seen.

It takes a while to make friends with a new pack. After a hundred miles or so, the two of us have settled in pretty nicely, but there are a few things that continue to distract/irritate. 1. Everything that comes in contact with my body is rough and scratchy - the webbing, the shoulder straps, the netting on the back? Scratchy, scratchy, scratchy. I can even feel it through my shirt. Forget wearing a tank top. 2. Another review were mentioned, the zippers on the Hip pockets are impossible to open and close one-handed. 3. I would love it if the hip pockets were removable and or adjustable. On my body, they said too far back to easily access, bum zippers or not.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this bag for a weeklong trip to Italy. This was my 6th Osprey pack purchase and for the first time, I was very disappointed with the Manta 24L for two reasons. (1) The length of the pack is much longer than I expected. My wife has a Manta 22L and the torso length is nearly 4 inches shorter and more practical as an everyday bag. Yes, the straps are adjustable but that doesn’t change the frame length. I suspect the length will not fit under an airline seat. (2) The cargo compartment is deep and narrow making it hard to pack. I would have preferred the length of a 22L frame with more girth in the bag itself to make up the additional 2L. I still love Osprey products, just not this one.

When I'm not going ultra light, Osprey is my jam. I have 5 packs of different sizes for all my backpacking needs and this one replaced an old 24L Camel pack I didn't realize was so limited until a recent day hiking trip. This Manta 24 checks all the boxes you would expect from Osprey. Unfortunately the outermost compartment is side entry only which I didn't know until I got it hope (online order). I don't like this and not sure why that was the design choice. Minus 1 star.
