Soft Bite Valve from Gregory
I got this new bite valve from REI to test Its got three pieces: the strap attachment to click to the magnet, The magnet itself that attaches to the hose from the bladder, then the adjustable bite valve. I will say, It was not finished, There was no hole in the bite valve so I had to cut that myself. To do this I used the two marks I could see in the end of the valve to cut 1/8" slits. Once I did that it worked really well. The valve is very soft, In fact when mountain biking I will often leave it in my teeth for a while and keep drinking, so This a feature I really Like. When I used it with my backpack hydration pack it worked perfectly fine. The price is very fair and the magnet is strong. When I used it hiking in a walking backpack, it worked perfectly too I like that it can be turned off so It wont leak. This is a great little valve and has everything I need.
Great product!
I was a little skeptical about this product at first but after trying it out I'm impressed. I put in on my 6 year old's camelback because she's always having trouble keeping the valve where she can reach it on hikes. The magnet made it easy for her to get a drink and reattach the valve back to the strap with the magnet. It didn't come undone unless she pulled on it so the magnet was strong enough which was another of my concerns. It was also very easy to switch out the valve and attach the magnet to her back pack.
For me, a huge upgrade for my water reservoir.
I've had some time to use this Gregory Magnetic Bite Valve, and I think it's a really solid product. I previously had a pretty basic bite valve that was included in my now kind of old water reservoir. That one was bit to open, but the lock had long-ago broken. So having a locking mechanism was an instant upgrade. Even better is the magnetic point of attachment. The base magnet attaches firmly and solidly to the sternum step on my backpacks (I tried a couple). Then the magnet on the bite valve attaches firmly and solidly to the base. Easy to separate, but it does not separate while hiking at a moderate to heavy pace. It held firm even with a brief trail run. I have no complaints or issues with the quality of this product, so it gets 5 stars from me! It's given my old reservoir new life and upgraded functionality.
Easy replacement compatible with Osprey bladder
Compatible with my 2.0 Osprey bladder. Easy to switch out the original bite valve with this replacement. Docking 1 star because the magnetic attachment is hard to move down the tube so it's right next to the mouth piece. Have used twice so far, easy to drink from, and quality seems good. Excited to take on more trips!
Cool magnetic portion, but valve deflective
I like the magnetic aspect of this bite valve, but unfortunately, the manufacturers forgot to cut a hold in the valve so you can't drink out of it. Cut a hole myself and made it work, but not a great thing to find out on the trail. Like I said, the magnetic portion was cool, especially for trail running, so that the hose doesn't flop around as much. Overall, if the valve worked, I would recommend the product, otherwise, not super useful.
All bite valves should come with magnet feature
Used this valve to replace a previous one and do love the magnetic feature. So handy on the trail and helps me keep it clean and accessible. Was super easy to replace with this one. No leaks after a month of high use. Do have to say the format of the the switch and the bite valve took some getting used to. It's a different design than I'm used to, so I struggled to get it open with one hand. Easier with practice though!
Good replacement
Bought this because the old valve on my Gregory reservoir was leaking. This valve has been a big improvement! The magnet on this is much stronger so it stays secure much better. The flow through the valve is better too. Some reviews are commenting on the valve being sealed on purchase and it is, but you just have to chew on it around 10 bites for it to open itself up. I don't know why they don't mention this anywhere as instructions but once you figure it out, it's easy.
For those with the Gregory insulated whip upgrade
I purchased this new bite valve after several seasons of use left my old model bite valve that came with my Gregory reservoir bent out of shape and dirty. It fit as I expected it to and should work well. The old model seemed to have problems with the open/close switch. Although I never had a problem with it personally, I'm sure that's why Gregory redesigned it. The rubber piece you bite now has a wider opening. You're definitely able to pull more water through with less effort compared to the old model. For those with the Gregory brand insulated whip, the included magnet hook piece that goes on the whip is a pain to get on since the insulated whip is thicker than the standard one. You can still get it on there. I resolved to use my teeth to help me. There's probably safer ways. Be creative!
An improvement to my hydration system
Great little conversion kit to improve your hydration system. The valve is easy to operate with one hand and it feels nice as you bite into it. The magnet attaches your hose to the backpack strap and prevents it from flapping around--a game changer! The magnet is strong enough so the hose doesn't detach easily but it's easy enough to detach the hose with one hand when one wants to take a drink. Great product!
Improvement on previous Gregory Bite Valve
I found the previous Gregory bite valve to have a flawed on/off mechanism that was prone to getting grit in it and then failing to close completely. This one is redesigned and no longer has that flaw. As other reviews have pointed out, the "cuts" in the valve aren't manufactured to go right through the valve. I wonder whether this is actually deliberate and anyway it's straightforward to use the point of a pair of scissors to complete the cuts. I've used the valve for a few months now and it continues to work well.
