Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Lasted me 655 miles!

I love the hiker! I bought them to use on the Camino De Santiago and they did great. They lasted me 655 miles going through all different terrains. They have more ankle support than the original mids that I was loyal to for years. I’m also a trail guide here in Maine and I am buying my second pair of these shoes to use for this season.

I've hiked the JMT twice with Altra Lone Peak Hikers and loved them. I have five pairs! These Hiker 2 boots are not the same boots. The previous version has a very wide toe box, which is one of the major advantages of Lone Peak shoes. These Hiker 2 boots do not have the same wide toe box. They are a new design with different measurements, so beware.

Ankle sturdy support and soft-soled satisfaction

I tried on a few hiking shoes and these were the pair that cinched the easiest and firmest at the ankle without spending a lot more. I that found the shoes with the metal hook took much more pulling to get it tight enough to actually support my ankles from possible rolling injuries while hiking long distances. Apart from the firm ankle support, my favorite part is the cushy support. Hard soles aggravate my hip, knee and ankle issues. These are surprisingly more comfortable than my new trail running Hokas. I love soft pink/peachy hues so the color was perfect until of course I got earth all over it. And then it was even more gorgeous. Highly recommend.

hard to fit - short toes

I tried my altra running shoe size (8.5) and toes are right in the ends. Sizing up did not solve it, however, because my feet in the 9 are not in the right place in the "foot shape" -- my metatarsal was still in the narrow arch part of the shoe. I was able to lock in my lacing using another insole to reduce volume for my narrow feet. I'm so disappointed as I can no longer tolerate shoes with tapered toes AND non waterproof boots are hard to find these days. finally I was legit shocked that these do not have quick lace hooks! I will try a future version of these boots because there is a lot to like, but not this edition.

the best! fyi runs small and brown is pink

These are the best hiking boots I’ve owned. I do field work and hike in my own time and I took these on a backpacking trip right after I bought them probably totaling around 20 miles on rocky/difficult trails in a few days and I got 0 blisters and they felt like trail runners with ankle support. They are cushioned but you can feel the ground below you and so much toe room! But FYI they run .5 small (I wear a 9 usually and I got a 9.5) and the “brown” is definitely like a clay pink color, but still a gorgeous color. And not totally waterproof, but I stepped in a few mud puddles and my feet stayed dry somehow. My feet are also a little wide and they’re perfect for that. Love them!!

Camino de Santiago winners!

My favorites! I wore them for the entire 790 km Camino de Santiago (Camino Frances) with no issues. Performed well in the heat, rain and mud. They also felt super light compared to other hiking boots I have. Love them!

SIZE UP! Great boots, when they fit

I recommend going a full size up. I'm usually US size 6.5 wide. I have the LP Alpines in 6.5 W and they fit well, but I wear thinner socks with them. I first got the Lone Peak Hiker 2's in 7 W (half a size up), and they were a tad too small, especially because I wear thicker socks for hiking. I got them again in 7.5 W and they're perfect. See pics comparing sz 6.5 Alpines w/ sz 7 Hiker 2's, and sz 7 vs. 7.5 Hiker 2's. Also, there is no arch support in these. Not an issue for me because I have very high arches and routinely add my own insoles to my shoes. When I removed the original Altra insoles and added my own, the fit was much better, and there was more room in the toebox because my insoles are thinner in the front (I use Superfeet carbon lightweight insoles). I haven't put many miles on these yet but I have done some short walks on mixed terrain, and they are great so far. They are lightweight, the high tops support my ankles without limiting movement, and they grip the ground well. Overall would recommend. Just be sure to size up. Thankfully, Altra makes returns super easy.
