Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

I am so glad Altra fixed their lone peak hiker shoe. I fell in love with the Lone Peak Hiker 1; I bought 3 pairs over the course of a couple years and was so excited when they released the Lone Peak Hiker 2. But the 2 did not fit the same, and was so terrible I finished my first hike in them barefoot and returned the shoes to REI. But these Lone Peak Hiker 3 are like gold. They are so comfortable, and fit just as nicely as the 1s. Highly recommend for people that want a low cushion shoe!
Hiked several 10+ mile hikes in dusty, sandy, or muddy conditions all felt pretty great. They can also handle rocky scrambles. I’m a fan of zero heel drop shoes with wide toe boxes, I get pains knees and toes, and numbness in narrow shoes, these are pretty much perfect. Wide toe boxes with narrow ankles. The ankle height gives extra protection for my thin ankles that are prone to rolling, but feel too loose in other stiffer shoes. I love how they are so light weight like a trail runner. They seem to dry quickly. Nice amount of support underfoot but still able to sense the rocks underneath which I prefer when hiking up slabs and on rocky trails. Wish they were a tad bit grippier but my old preferred shoe was an approach shoe, so it could be me.
Comfy shoes for hiking, especially if you’re a fan of a more “minimalistic” shoe. Love them!
These are really cute and I wanted to love them for that reason and because others had reviewed this brand so highly. But, I out them on and walked around in my house for about 20 minutes and kept thinking these are so flat I feel like I'm walking in my heals. Within that short time frame I began to notice discomfort in my knees and heals so they will be returned. If you are used to having some modest difference between heal and toe height these may not be comfortable for you.
