Favorite shorts - swim, climb, hike, run, bike, lounge
Honestly these are the best shorts I've ever owned. I use them for running, yoga, climbing, hiking, swimming, working out, and straight chilling. They dry in 15 minutes, no exaggeration. have gotten an insane amount compliments on them. They do wear out a little faster than most shorts, but I practically wear them nonstop. Sizing... Buy much smaller than usual, I can wear Medium or Large shorts at times but I wear a Small for the elastic waistband.
Super versatile and comfortable pants
These shorts are great for almost everything. I wear them to run errands, lounging around the house, working out, fishing, hiking, playing basketball, you name it. The material is light, and even if they get wet, they dry out really quickly. I like the size of the pockets and how roomy they feel. The one downside is that if you carry a large phone and a heavy wallet or keys with you, you might start to have trouble keeping the pants up. There's no way to cinch down the waist, so if you're putting weight in the pockets, you might want to test out how they fit on your waist before heading out. Otherwise, if you keep the pockets clear, they're pretty much the best pair of shorts you can get in terms of versatility, comfort and style.
Versatile and comfy but fit is not great
I ordered a couple of pairs because of the amazing price. Never worn these before so I reached out to OR about size to make sure I got the right one. I usually wear 34 inseam on everything so according them I should order L. Unfortunately the L size feels quite bit and with just an elastic waistband, they got pretty loose towards the end of the the day. I will definitely still wear them as they are quite comfortable but if you keep anything in your pockets, they won't stay up. Should have gone down a size!
But why?
Why do the Zendo shorts not have a drawstring like the Zendo pants? I purchased the Zendo pants and those have a drawstring and those are fantastic. The shorts of the same name, no drawstring and a bit too loose. Was this laziness with the design department or what? With a phone/wallet/other stuff in my pocket you can't wear these without having to worry about pulling them up every so often, they just don't feel secure. I'm 6'3 190lbs and size L fits perfect with about any other brand. Love the pants though.
Used to be better..
I bought two pairs of these a couple years ago and I still wear them both frequently. The waistband was and stays strong, no problem loading up the pockets. I bought a third pair recently and they must have changed the waistband design because it feels like they will fall down if I put my phone in my pocket. I compared the waistband and they old shorts waistband elastic is twice as thick. I wish they hadn't changed it. 6'1, 180 lb, ordered a M Still a huge OR fan though. Normally they hit it out of the park.
Nice, not perfect.
Love the design in general. It's very comfortable even the 100s and it dries fast. But after wearing it (without doing anything crazy!) about 10 days, there's already noticeable piling in the crotch, which worries me a bit about the fabric's durability especially if I was to wear a climbing harness with them. I'm also a bit bummed that the seam around the elastic is so thick. It makes yoga and other workouts where you're on your back much less comfortable; which was my primary intent when buying those.
Put them through hell and back and they worked like a charm
I don't normally write reviews but I recently used these shorts on a climbing trip to the desert and they worked so well I felt compelled to write one. Put them through the ringer for 8 days, no washing, and they were good as new after they got cleaned up. I really appreciate how strong the elastic is on the waistband, how abrasion-resistant the fabric is and how well they wick sweat and moisture. I liked them so much that I bought a second pair.
Time to zendo that proj
I ordered medium when I typically wear a medium in OR pants. I'd say I'm 31" waist as reference. These fit snug on my hips and will shrink slightly if dried in the dryer. They seem to loosen up a little after wearing post dryer. These remind me of the original mojo shorts by prana but the main shorts fabric is stretchy. Pockets are too small imho but that's ok. These are nearly perfect for me in casual wear as well as more athletic endeavors.
Close to Excellence
Quality of material and build/durability is excellent and consistent with other OR products. Personally I felt the waistband was a miss. Unless your waist is the perfect size for these shorts, the elasticity lacks adequate strength to hold the shorts up (especially if you have anything somewhat heavy in your pockets). There is no drawstring to manually adjust the waist size, and I would happily re-buy if they added one.
Sized up for comfort
As other reviewers have mentioned, the sizing for these shorts are on the trim side. They're definitely not loose and flowy like basketball shorts. I normally wear 30" waist pants, but based on the reviews here, I decided to order a Medium. I'm glad that I did, as I imagine the Small waistband would have been way too tight for my comfort. Other than the odd waistband sizing, I find the material to be very comfortable.
