Excellent tool

I work as an avalanche instructor and forecaster. The black background with white numbers is easily visible for snow pit work. Easily stored deployable. I’m super happy with this probe.

I hope to never truly need it

I recently purchased the Quickdraw Pro Probe because last year on a hut trip the guides called my former probe a "baby probe" and lent me a longer one to carry for the week. I hope to never need this longer, more robust probe. But thing thing is. . . if I need a probe, I really want a good one. I want a piece of equiptment that is designed to deploy quickly and be long enough for the snowpacks I love to ski. I think this choice was a good one for a piece of equiptment that I hope to practice with and carry into the recesses of the wilderness.

Easy Snap to Lock into Position

The QuickDraw 30 Aluminum probe has been great so far. I'm an avalanche educator and coach. The ease of how the probe snaps or locks into position is GREAT. The graduated markings are also very helpful. I will use this probe for teaching and for personal backcountry travel. Last year I purchased two carbon BD probes and hated them because not only were they not durable, but they were very difficult to lock into position with only a 2 mm kevlar knot holding it in. Who can mess with that when you're trying to save someone's life?!

First choice in probes

As a patroller and avalanche instructor, this is my probe of choice. Stability and an easy locking mechanism for rapid deployment are my top priorities in a probe which I've found in this model. The previous paint had the tendency to smudge away the depth numbers, I'm hoping the new color/paint will hold up for more than 2 seasons of daily use. I would not worry about the numbers smudging as a recreational user. I would recommend this probe for recreational users and professionals.

Easy to use & high quality

Easy to grab and pull. Pieces lock into place quickly and without any faff. Have had a few of these now and they all work well, took this longer one to Alaska on a recent trip and it will also be great for the west coast BC snowpack. Only improvement BD could make would be coloring the last 30cm piece differently to cue you're nearing the buried victim and to slow down (the way BCA and Mammut do). Otherwise high quality equipment and would recommend.

BD Probe

I had the probe before this model which was the QuickDraw Tour Probe 320. It has broken twice in 4 years with normal use ski patrolling and doing mountain recue. BD was nice enough to warranty it the first time. The white plastic female peice on the inside of each segment of the probe seems to be the weak point of the probe. If that bends or breaks then probe will not deploy completely. I think this gear should be made stronger.

Easy to use

I love this probe! My last one was so hard to get locked in place. The probe this replaces was a 300 and about the same weight. So this probe is technically lighter since it’s longer at 320. So I’m stoked to have longer reach and faster deployment!!

Good Probe But Scale is only to 270mm

The probe is lightweight and easy to deploy but the number scale only goes to 270mm despite being a 320mm probe. In the event you are probing the full depth, those last 50mm that say ‘Black Diamond’ are not nearly as useful as numbers 275-320.

Solid

Solid probe. Certainly on the heavy side. Deploys quick and the markings are very clear. Over time, the wire can take a beating from being folded in your bag. Be sure to inspect it each time you go out.
